I've been eyeing the CSP since I started learning about credit. I'm new to credit so I knew I couldn't aim for it too soon and that being a student (low income) getting that sign up bonus would be hard. What has changed? I got my foot in the door with Chase 4 months ago and I've been PIF. I'll be booking a 4 night stay at a hotel soon and having other (relatively) high spend during the upcoming months which could easily get me the signup bonus. My original plan was to wait 6mos with the Freedom to have a longer history with them and push the CL of the amex to atleast 5k (this because I've read that reason for denial is not having a 5k cl) but the thing is I may not be able to wait 2 months more to do this because the faster I begin booking and doing the rest the better for me. What do you guys recommend?
I only have 3 credit cards. Got the amex bce and freedom 4mos ago and the BB will be 2 years in August. I got the How will the new Chase policy affect my chances?
733 CK TU Vantage Score
734 CK EQ Vantage Score
utilization of 17%
AAoA of 1 yr
2 hps in TU, 1 hp in EQ
no baddies
thanks in advance.
no prequals. (for some reason I never get them)

Your not alone, I never get pre-quals but get approved anyway. Scores look pretty good. Other posters will likely have a sense for the actual requirements for a CSP so I will bump on this. Hope others think you could qualify. It is always nice to obtain the card(s) you desire.

I got pre-quals from Chase up until I got the Freedom, now I get nothing at all. As far as apping for the CSP right now I'm not sure. If you had a pre-qual I'd say go for it, but you don't so it's a 50/50 chance. The good news is it seems that your profile would pass their new policy (less than 5 new accounts in the last 2 years) so you stand a chance. If you're feeling brave go for it, the worst they can say is no.

I was discouraged everytime I saw I didn't had prequals until I apped and still got the freedom.
Your profile seems pretty similar to mine when I applied for the CSP.
I had one year AAoA, pretty much the same scores, number of HP's and 3 CC's at the time.
My income is $45k though, but have no idea if that helped.
I wasn't prequalified for the CSP just before I applied which made me worry and the fact I had no relationship with them as a bank.
Auto approval for 8.5k.
I would just go for it if I was you as the more HP's you end up acquiring from new cards, the higher the chances of denial. Their new guidelines frown upon a lot of HP's and also new accounts with them and other CC companies.
I would say the only things that could result in a denial is if your income is <$20k or if your CC's don't total to more than $5k as they like to see a few higher CL's because the CSP has a minimum CL of $5k. But even then you could call the backdoor number!
Good luck and keep us posted, I am curious as you have a similar profile to myself.
@JVANCRLS
I meant $5k combined CL's. After seeing the cards that you have on your message footer that wouldn't be a problem. You have more than enough combined CL's!
I would go for it.

@pricetyler i've read chase likes to see atleast one cl of 5k=<. thanks for your help. i'll see if i apply as soon as i pay this month statement (1-2weeks). hopefully i'll have good news.
I was just in another discussion where others thought that Chase wants to see at least 5k in CLs before approving the CSP. I disagreed everyone and told the person to go for it since they were pre-qualified for it (they only had 1 credit card which had a 3k CL--that's it). Anyway, they were approved for the CSP with a great SL... So I don't think the 5k thing really applies anymore. I'm thinking that perhaps with Chase's new policies, maybe they're are targeting people with thinner files--I don't know. I just know that someone just got approved with only one 3k card in their file. So if you have a pre-qual offer on Chase's site, I say go for it.
