I was told by an Amex representative that I can get declined if my delinquencies are two years old..

I just spoke to a American Express for the blue card to ask what my scores need to be for approval, he didn't provide me a straight answer. To make long story short, he told me after asking some questions: you can still be declined for the blue card if your delinquencies were two years old. He went further by saying, people have been approved with lower scores and people with higher scores were declined. That part he said, I found confusing. He could not provide me a straight forward answer, as to what criteria I need for a guarantee approval. My Ex 662, Tu 685, EQ (not updated), by it is 629 right now. My scores on my Experian went from 616!to 662 and my TU went from 649 to 685; because my utilization had drop from 30% to 24%.

Can someone help shed some light here, I currently have several cards, mainly store credit cards that are low in balances and high available credit, including my three bank cards: Cap. One quicksilver 2500 cal with balance of 14.77 and another capt one with a cl of $500 with a balance of $10.00 and American Express Green card with zero balance. My delinquent accounts were paid off and closed some years ago, due to financial hardship I have faced stemming from loss and change in income. I have since bounced back and is doing a lot better. Can someone advise please? Thank you.

Everyone's profile is different, but you can raise your scores a bit more.

Pay all your accouts except one down to a $0 balance, and let that report. The one account you have a balance on should have between 1-10% utilization. This maximizes your scores, and will probably help obtain an approval that is more rewarding that a $500 or $1K starting limit. When Amex starts you at that limit, you tend to stay there for a while.

I wouldnt think the rep could actually answer that. There is more than just your score that is even a factor. The only time a bank has ever been able to give a score for approval, likely approval, are the credit unions I use. If I were you, I'd do the amex prequal on their site and then check the credit pulls database to see what CRA's were pulled and what scores were approved. My scores are between 673-696, prior to my med collection falling off. Haven't received updated scores yet, but I've received 3 amex offers in the mail in the last week and show preapproval for a bunch online. I'd try that first.

Your Ex is borderline for Amex. If you have an actual preapproval for a card you should be good
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Let's put it this way....

You already have a Green AMEX right?

You can't prequal because you have an existing account...... Apping for a BCE/P won't hurt if you're declined since it would be a SP and only a HP if approved.

There are NO GUARANTEES whatsoever, no matter what your score is when it comes to credit.

What types of delinquencies do you have showing?

Re: I was told by an Amex representative that I can get declined if my delinquencies are two years o

Delinquencies from Verizon wireless, it was reported back in 2015 and went into collections (after I've paid the balance in full), then there's spiegel it was reported in 2015 as 120 days past due, but I kept the account in good standing by paying on time; until the balance was eventually paid off. Synchrony bank's Lord & Taylor was charged off in 2014, yet the balance was paid off in 2015 and then reported to Experian as paid, but delinquent and Synchrony Home Design NAHFA, it was reported as paid but 120 days past due back in 2010.

Apply. If you are denied no hard pull. Only will be a hard if approved.

Let us know the outcome! Good luck.
