Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

I finally got my score up in the 720s but still have some derogatory marks. I want to apply for some cards to help build credit. Do multiple inquires for credit cards in the same day count as one or will having multiple hits hurt me?

Re: Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

Inquiries made on the same day for different revolving account apps will not be counted as one.  It's not like auto loan shopping where inquiries are lumped together and scored as one.

Each unique creditor that you apply with will HP you at least once (on one bureau).  Others like Chase are known to double pull at times.  Capital One pulls all 3 bureaus (1 HP per bureau).

The only slight loophole in the system is if you apply for 2 cards from the same creditor at the same time.  Sometimes they'll do just one HP and use that HP for both accounts, so you get away with one less HP.

Hopefully that helps.

Re: Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I guess I will apply for 6-8 and see what happens. I only have one open now to build credit and it has an annual fee. I'm looking to balance transfer and close it in another year or so. Here's to hoping the derogs don't hold me back.

How do your FICO scores look currently?

Re: Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

Although they will all show separately, and quickly, they will at least all age off together.
If you're wanting to app for that many (1/2 that may be better), Id look at who you are applying to. Some lenders are over sensitive to inquiries

Re: Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

6-8 sounds like a bad idea to me... I've seen too many stories on here about (Chase, especially) approving and reneging a card. Definitely go for 1-2 though if your profile supports it. Some lenders won't give you two cards in a day anyway.

Re: Inquiries question. Ready to apply.

How did you get such great cards and CL? I wish I could have as much as you. I'm  between 570-603 and only have 4 cards totaling $1900

I didn't list what cards or credit limits I received... where are you getting that info?
