Is 3x the limit for a CLI with Amex?

So my 6 months will be up with Amex shortly.  I want my Blue Business Plus and my EDP to end up at $25k each.  Question... the BBP is currently at $5k, and the EDP at $13k.  I was considering asking for $25k on the BBP with this next increase, then the additional $12k on the EDP 6 months after that.  Over the years we always talk about 3x with Amex, however do they ever go further?  Or do I have to ask for $15k, then add another 6 month cycle and request the $25k.

As part of my simplifying/chopping I'd love to be done thinking about Amex goals within the next 9 months.  $25k is my magic ceiling number with my credit accounts and is pretty much where I'll close out the increase requests on any cc accounts moving forward.  I always try to do this stuff when the banks can clearly see I don't need it.

Re: Is 3x the limit for a CLI with Amex?

Last I checked, Amex allowed CL reallocation from personal cards to sole proprietor business cards (but not vice versa).

If others can confirm that's still the case, and you're willing to provide proof of income in the very possible event Amex asks, you could try to take the EDP from $13k to $39k and then move some CL to BBP.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

There have been very, very rare instances as reported in the AmEx 3x CLI mega thread, but it's  profile-specific. Most of the time, it appears to be 3x the requested amount unless you want to provide IV in the event you want a higher limit than what the system approved.

There's also the CL reallocation route as well, but in your specific scenario, only personal>biz is the option -- if you wish to pursue it that way.

I recall a 17x CLI, but that was an auto-increase initiated by AMEX.

I'd request 34k or 35k on the EDP. If granted, move anything over 25k to the BBP. Then in six months, attempt to raise the BBP's limit to 25k.

Wow... I didn't even consider what you guys suggested. Not too shabby. So iirc the $34k is the ceiling with Amex before a Financial review is required, correct? Never considered that as a faster track to the goal. I was actually considering closing my old ED, however with 3x MR on gas and 2x on groceries I went ahead and upgraded to the EDP. I definitely wanna keep them both now. The 2x on the BBP covers everything that the Chase Ink has lackluster rewards on. This is good stuff.

Does Amex have a hard limit on aggregate exposure over all revolvers?

No to the FR piece. Yes, there's an overall exposure maximum and you'll know when you reach it. It's not the same amount for everyone.

The Financial Review is really overstated and misunderstood/misplaced. Every profile is different and AENB UW algorithms will determine whether IV (not FR) may be required depending on the amount of the CLI request. In the past, there were some initial chatter about some parameters that could trigger IV which was around ~$25K, then that figured moved to ~$30K and eventually somehow settled into ~$35K. So, request something reasonable and comfortable that works for you -- 3x is not a requirement, simply a known guideline.

Re: Is 3x the limit for a CLI with Amex?

I recently asked for increase and Amex be all "Bank account access/statements or we cannot be friends"

At the time I asked, CL was $50,000.

I giveth them some statements and it took a whole week for an email to arrive telling me I have secure message, which was rather interesting.

In addition to "we've increased your limit" it had something along the lines of *no further increases with this income verification due to low spend"

I though that meant forever and that would be fine, too, but I had to ask.

Allegedly, you can ask again multiple times if you go through IV as long as use and income support it.

As a reference point, my typical use is about $3000.00 per month, which is low compared to the limit.

Funny bit, I sometimes check pre-approval for personal loan, I love seeing amount and apr yo yo with changes on CR. Immediately upon completion of IV, my pre-approved amount went from $25,000 to $40,000.

There were no SPs during that time and scores/utilization didn't change during past several months.

So, it's possible to ask for the moon and stars, but they might want to fact check and apparently they now care about how much if your limit you're using.

If you aren't making a dent, I would be conservative with the request. If you're knocking their socks off,  put the amount you want and see what happens.

 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣   I'm dying

Ok so what you both said makes alot of sense. I'd be happy with $25k on the EDP tbh.  Between the Platinum and EDP I'm at about $6k a month give or take. The only reason I don't have high spend on the BBP is because I can't do the multiple pmt thing... too much energy. PLUS I got a sweet pre-approved deal on the Ink last December so it's less urgent now. But I could muster 25-50k each month on both of them if Amex loosened up those purse strings! I think I'll Hybrid the strategy, ask for $30k on the EDP, then in 9 months ask for the same on the BBP. Screw it. Then I'm done with them as far as credit seeking is concerned.
