Detection is not quite the word I would go for. If a spree ends up with 4 instead of 5 or 6 INQ, then that is great. PM me how you did it, high fives all around. The issue lies with some lenders who soft pull you in subsequent months see the new accounts+ inquiries and question if you are overextending and a potential risk. Since new credit seekers who are MYFICO members generally want CLI after a period of months, or lots of spend, whatever, that puts you on the radar. Every phone call, every love button...it's all documented. Some lenders seem not to care, some who are "mean" may not care to certain members' thick and clean credit profiles.

In a nutshell, this ^^^^.
I've only done a 'spree' a couple of times, but honestly inquiries were the least of my concern. The reason I chose to 'batch' my applications was that I knew once the new accounts started reporting my score would be impacted from the new accounts and lower AAoA, and I wanted to give myself the best chances possible of approval.
Of course the 'spree' isn't without it's own risks (well-documented on here) but in my case I wasn't extremely aggressive and it worked out... as always, YMMV.
There's no "ethical" concern for me since nobody is being tricked or deceived; the inquiries are said to be instant in most cases anyway, and most lenders do occasional soft-pull ARs so they can always take action later if they don't like what they see (which is related to the risk I mentioned above).
With all things. though, it's not for everybody... I encourage people to do what's best for them.

Wow, some of the biting replies, I was just throwimg out a topic for discussion. FYI i subscribe to every credit reporting service. 100% of the time so far Experian credit tracker does not notify my of INGQ for a full 24hrs. In fact i have speculated often if i reeived a sp because no instant notification reported.
This is completely independent of when a INQ hits your report for other lenders to see. I am quite certain all monitoring services check your report every 24 hrs ...not actively every second of the day. So it's perfectly logical that an inquiry is in fact on your report immediately after you apply for credit, but the monitoring service doesn't detect the change until the next day. And you won't get a notification on a SP..that's the whole reason its called a SOFT pull

Not sure I agree with this. New accounts can take a while to show up. Usually this doesn't happen in days, but rather weeks or even months. If someone apps over the course of several days or even a week or longer, there's a very slim chance that any of the spree accounts would have reported yet.
