I have spent the last few years really doing my best to improve my credit profile...but unfortunately there were a handful of cards I opened in the last 3 years that had very small starting limits. I'd prefer not to apply for new accounts since I already have about 7 cards open at the time, so really any month I make a payment and it applies to my statement I apply for a CLI (have been somewhat lucky over the last year with a few cards almost 3-5x'ing my limits).
Is there such thing as requesting a CLI too much? Do they take this into consideration or is just an automated system thing based off your profile at that time? I know there is no HP for any of the cards that I have, but just wondering if my constant requests could backfire?
Asking too often won't hurt you if they are not pulling your credit but when they are soft pulls, the data doesn't change from day to day or week to week for them to consider a new request. Most likely, they will use data from the last month to make a decision on your CLI request.
As @1GaDawg85 said, you should be fine as long as they are soft pulls.
I feel like thats why Sync cut all my cards last year

Right. But, SYNCB is in a much different category. Sure, it's all fun and games and most people like them because it's low hanging fruit + the ease of padding lines/utilization until it isn't or things evaporate. Then again, it depends how much one loves flying close to the sun 🤷♂️☀️💀
It depends on the card we are talking about. AMEX definitely keeps track of the requests and dings you if you have too many. The "check spending power" button and frequent credit limit increase requests will hurt you. I got a reduced CLI once, declined the 3x, but gave me a lower amount. The reason, "Too many requests for credit". I looked at my report and I had ZERO new applications, inquiries or accounts. I called and she said "Our system shows on this date you checked spending power...on this date you requested a credit limit, on this date you requested a credit limit, and on this date....". So with AMEX...dont touch those buttons unless you need them. Now others like Discover say, request as often as you like....
YES!!!
Synchrony Bank will Close accounts out of nowhere. They will also CLD you. No matter how "perfect" your credit is.

@biznob - that's a very generalized statement. Not every SYNCB cardholder gets their accounts closed and/or CLD "out of nowhere" and for no reason. If that were the case, no new accounts would be approved and no CLIs would be approved either. And, while SYNCB may be somewhat more prone to Adverse Action, the average consumer isn't likely impacted by these actions.
