Is preapproved unsecured Merrick a HP if you apply?

Anyone know if you receive a double-your-limit unsecured preapproval from Merrick in the mail... will applying result in a HP? Obviously, they've already done a SP.

Wouldn't mind the card (no AF) for additional padding, but don't want to waste a HP.

Yes, an application will result in a HP unless you are very very very well qualified and/or have a personal relationship with the bank.

Like CC said, its a hard pull on TU.

It's worth the HP. The automatic doubling makes it a great rebuilder card for the first year, maybe even a second year. The card will grow quicker than you think.

Yeah, the SL is only $600, which will double to $1,200. Already have Capital One QS1 with 9k and Platinum 2k credit lines - and the 6 month credit steps CLIs haven't hit yet.... so I don't think the Merrick would be worth the hard pull. I was only considering it since there are no fees... not worried about the interest since I will never carry a balance.
