630 is a very speculative data point, even if true. We don't know what version is used AND, more importantly, there are many "escape" clauses to completely skew estimates for approval. I.e, INQs, new accounts, DTI, income, egyption ancestry, etc.

When you look at the overall landscape, NO ONE is a slam dunk with Compass or any lender for that matter. Particularly if you have no prior relationship with a given lender.

If a lender needs to increase lending strictly for compliance, why not target current banking customers that previously fell short instead of new customers? I.e, a massive "pre-approval" campaign?

Are you saying the loan officer mislead me? Or are you saying I'm not telling the truth?  Either way I find your post off color.  I sincerely believe the loan officer and I am relaying his words exactly. Yes approval and approval amounts will vary from person to person.  That is with any card.  630 is not written in stone .  A person can go into a branch and turn a denial into in approval.  I meant this post as a yard stick.

Nah... Just like information... I have more credit at 50k+ then I know what to do with and only 1/3rd approx of my salary..  I am looking for the right cards and the right bonuses or hidden trade lines..  I am looking at you Diners if you weren't gone....  I am going to be very picky going forward on the cards I app for.. This is a good card for CL and APR, but not my cup of tea...  Ring will be included most likely and the Ritz this year.. Other then that I have no clue what i want Smiley Happy.. Waiting for the Amex 23k CL to report along with the SM 11k+ CL to report the go from there...Anything under 10K will make me sad Smiley Sad

Re: Minimal Score for BBVA is 630

"Off color"? Really?

I thought my message was pretty clear, there are a wide variety of factors considered in decisioning, 630, or 700, isn't an automatic qualifier.

A solitary number misleads all of us that are "numbers" people cuz numbers don't lie.

YOU successfully persuaded the UW that although your "number" might be borderline, the rest of your profile was acceptable.

Me? I thought an Eq04 of 699 was a slam dunk for DCU when all reports suggest anything over 675 is acceptable...nope.

I'm quite happy for you, I'm just not so sure 630 will be approved for the multitude...

11/14/14 Total CL $1,100; 6/30/15 Total CL $180K

No, not just for "heavy hitters".  Now, if the card/network/product/rewards structure doesn't make sense or fit with your overall portfolio, then don't app for it.  But, if it does, you know you have as much of an opportunity as anyone Smiley Wink

Last month's FOTM (Venture) was more useful to me (VISA with 40k miles bonus) than this month's FOTM (AMEX NBA with meh rewards) so I declined to hop on the bandwagon.  Smiley Wink

I'm still flip flopping on whether to pull the trigger or not. One day it's considered and then another day it's dismissed.

If I actually used my AmEx at any place other than Costco I'd have put more consideration into it at least as a FOTM UTI padder... but the AmEX/Costco relationship ends next March.  Smiley Wink

Only go for it if the product/network/rewards structure and NBA affinity makes sense for your portfolio.  Some will benefit from it (I know I will), while others will not - it is not for everyone.  Take for instance BMO Diners, you now have a piece of CC history that will not repeat itself (for perhaps a long time) - the train left (and crashed for some).  Now, BBVA is not going anywhere of course but there's only so much "gravy" left.  If you have other CCs lined up for this year and don't want to chance on those approvals, then you can pass on this one.

The Venture FOTM made no sense for my portfolio because for one, I already have Venture which was upgraded from an older product a long while ago.  Mine has no AF (which was a plus for the early adopters).  As far as travel benefits, Ritz, CSP, SWA/MPE combo, Merrill+ and BMO Diners Elite have been a plus.  Venture was *meh* and I don't need a 2nd one!  And Ring, well I don't need to do any BT's since my balances/transactions are PIF, so I passed on that one too.

You know what is best for your credit goals and profile Smiley Happy
