There's a reservation # and access code and I have to apply by Dec 29.
They list some reasons why someone may not be approved. One reason is if I applied for 2 or more Capital One cards in the last 30 days. I did, so I guess I better not apply again. Maybe I should call?
.OMG, You see, this is what i mean about not giving all the info. ( You apped for 2 or more cards In 30 days) so they declined you! > Going forward don't do the back to back app! if u haven't apped for anything in 18 months & your scores are over 700 & you preQualify go fo it! & always & only app for higher tier card even if u don't want it! Calling won't help you'll have to reapply & then, i don't want you to apply until you are Qualified again.. you'll see it! everything will be fine.. it's just nice to have all the info.. not bit's & pieces at a time.

The thing is, I didn't know that I got the pre-qualification letter, when I applied for the 2 cards. I just got that info today. I don't see how that should be a negative for me. Since how could I know that they were going to send the pre-qualification letter as I applied for 2 cards.

I respectfully disagree with this. Higher tier cards can carry AF and higher spend to meet bonus which does not work for some. In OP's first post, it is revealed that they apped for the QS and Venture back to back. Also there has been at least 20 posts where others successfully app for 2 Ventures/V and V1/V and QS etc. As we all come to know eventually, the credit world can be HIGHLY YMMV.
OP's stated scores are 674-678, presumably FICO 8. Cap1 AFAIK uses FICO 4 so those scores could be lower. Add the collections, albeit aged a little, and that very well could've doomed the app(s).
It sounds like OP has a plan of attack going forward and probably knows to work on the collections, get some more history, and try again later. OP you can try the EO route if you like. Best of luck in whatever route you choose

Stop... think for a second 1st, it's not a Negative on you, per say, Whether you where gonna get that letter or not, the rule is.. rite now with that lender, all that happened, Was You apped.. You applied for too many cards within 30 days (Whatever the amount is) it could be 1.2.3.4 dosen't matter Capital One is very fussy While being very generous. i know for a fact people get 2 acc'ts at 1 time.. whether you where approved for 1 card or 2 or none you apped for too much within 30 days.. this happens all the time No worries (IMO) give it some time

I'm honestly not sure how to respond to this ^^^.
From what I can decipher, I'll say that differing views can lead to positive conversation and greater opportunity to learn from one another. However, when I read a comment that says "always & only app for higher tier card even if u don't want it!" I felt compelled to point out top tier cards can carry AF upwards of $450 or 4k/3mo spend, and to app for said card if they don't want it is not responsible IMO. Sorry if you don't like it but I'll disagree with that all day everyday and twice on Sunday. It wasn't a personal shot at you, just something to consider for anyone else who may stumble upon this thread in the future. I apologize in advance if I have previously misread your comments; they are somewhat difficult to read and fully comprehend.
OP, just to clarify my EO comment it's meant to be read as: "You can try the EO route if you like, although I'm not sure it will help in this case." I'm going to bow out of this thread so as not to further distract from your post. If you have any further questions for me feel free to shoot me a PM.
I just got two 7-10 day letters from Capital One. They are just asking for me to call them to give them my home address. I use a UPS box for most of my mail. That was the only thing they asked for. So I'll call tomorrow.
I got the 7-10 day letter from Barclays, with a laundry list of reasons I was denied. They were mostly reaons that don't apply. Maybe I call them.
I called Capital One and gave them my residential address. They approved me for Quicksilver for $3k and Venture for $10k. Yeah! I really didn't excpect that high of limits.
I'm still going to go for the Open Sky secured card for $300, because I want at least 3 cards and that one won't have a hard pull.
I have the $3,000 secured card from Capital One. I want the deposit back, but I'll probably wait at least 3 months so I don't have 3 new cards at the same time with no old cards.
you got approved for a QS you really really don't need that secured card. you seem like your rushing things, i didn't see mentioned anywhere what goals you may have. If you want another TL via SP I might suggest a secured loan through Alliant. That diversifies your credit as well. After that I would garden for 6 months to a year.
