LOL For the past several years she has been severly underpaid because we were dating and our HR attorney felt it was safer to have her be the lowest paid employee in our operation. This makes it less of a risk when we need to terminate or deal with any other team member. Once we are married the HR risk is gone so it won't matter what we pay her. :-)
That's one weird HR department, giving future spouse significant increase is a definition of nepotism and not paying someone for the work they were doing because of association with someone higher on the command food chain is just ugh. There is a name for that, too.
The fact partner's or spouse's income gets manipulated over credit card application is a head scratcher. Fact that "HR" thinks girlfriends aren't worth paying for their work because of the potential optics of that situation, but it's totally okay when married and that it makes it easier to terminate or deal with others ...🤯
Do others get opportunity to double their income for credit card applications?
Had she been paid (for years) for the work she was doing, none of this would have been an issue.
Involving business into personal credit card application ... I got nothing ...
Imma head out ...
Thank you for your thoughtful response. When Daph and I started dating I asked her if she wanted to work elsewhere to avoid the issues and she chose to stay and work with us. We have been a committed couple living together and sharing our finances so she was not limited in her lifestyle. She was merely paid less on payroll. She made the choice and we both felt comfortable with it. On the 28th of this month we will be married and then HR has no impact on her. There is never a clear cut best practice in situations like this. We have to look at each situation and communicate openly to figure out what works best for all involved. In our case this was the best solution and it worked out well. Looking forward to saying "I do" in a couple weeks :-)
@bilwilvegas Hey Boss man!😎 Fire your HR because that is a lawsuit waiting to happen! Add your wife as authorise user on X1 for few months till she can show higher income deposited to her account for few weeks/months!
Also congrats on your marriage! 💍🥂
With the income being changed, they may very well require income verification. If that is in the form of a 4506-C for tax returns, additional income being received now would not be reflected there as a joint federal return was not filed. The criteria for intercompany disclosure varies by state, but as long as things are transparent according to the labour laws of your particular state, there shouldn't be an issue whether the employee is making $15 an hour or $800k annual salary. The previous status seems ripe for a workplace discrimination suit, which would probably be much more lucrative than rewards on any credit card.
I'm envious of the first employee who figures this out (and they will). They won't have to work for a really long time.
I just hope you realize that personal relationships dont transcend laws and regulations, and more importantly, that actions can be illegal even if person willingly consented if relationship is used as soft coercion ("it will be okay some day when we're married")
But, if any of that mattered, one wouldn't typed it on the webz like it's no big deal, because it is a big deal.
To clarify for all parties concerned, she is not underpaid for her position. She chose not to move up into sales and earn more. This provided her with more flexibilty in our lives and also made it less of a target for other employees in our company. We have consulted with our HR attorneys from the start and are in full compliance.
Once we are married she can submit with household income or she may choose to move forward in her career. Only time will tell which choice she makes.
I just wanted to clarify all of these points as so many seem to jump to the conclusion of shady happenings :-)
