Hello everyone,
I am waiting a bit to apply for my first nfcu card as I just joined. However, I am preparing my strategy for this application. Their Amex is my first choice of cards but I've heard you may get a prove yourself limit first so would it be beneficial to go for the cash rewards card first and get the Amex as my second card? Let's say I do this and get surprised with a high limit on my cash rewards card could I then product change to my first choice card which is the Amex? I was thinking if I got approved for over $3k I would like a product change to the Amex cars but if less than that wait my time and then apply for the Amex later? Just getting some opinions!

If it were me, I would go for the card I wanted.
Call them and ask them
Good luck !
They have a phone prequalification. Call & ask.. if they say they don't have it, hang up & call again. Some reps aren't aware they have it, so it seems.
To answer your question, I PC'd to the Amex from the Go Rewards, so it is possible. Still, I would go for the one you want. 😊

I just became a member earlier this week, right after becoming a member, I did call the credit card department and asked if I was pre qualifed for any of their credit cards, I said I just became a member. The CSR told me, they dont call it a pre approval or pre qualify more like an invitation, and he advised me to go for the green card the cash rewards card, as that was the only card I have an invitation to. I did want the Amex 3x on alot of categories card as well (like you), but I did listen to him and apped for the card. I did receive a very low SL, which was $700. My lowest limit credit card, my highest is Chase Sapphire Resreve at $27,100. I just need to establish a relatiosnip with them, so gonna wait 3 months, and do a CLI on that card. My utilization is a bit high right now, at 59%. So that could be it as well, my transunion was at a 702. Just call and see what cards you have an "invatation" to.
Congratulations!! You got your foot in the door, that's what matters. You can go for the CLI and the Amex card the next go around. Thanks for the tip about the "invitation", I'm anxiously waiting for my 2nd NFCU card night now...
I spoke with a CSR yesterday and she used the term "Pre-approved"
Good luck OP
Best of luck! 🤞
Just got my More Rewards in the mail yesterday. Was approved last week with a 4.8 post BK DC and became a member 2 weeks ago. If I got approved with a BK. You should be fine. I dont care what the cards name is. Its the bene's. The CB fills up the savings account. Not the name. But thats me. YMMV.
