NFCU CLI Denial - Explanation

So I decided to apply for a CLI on my NFCU Amex ... I was approved for a SL of 1K (By Far my lowest) on 2/9/2020 ... I pulled the trigger and hit the love button on 5/10/2020 .. Received the 24 Pending Decision ... Didnt hear anything back for 48 hours decided to call to find out if decision had been made and was told that the Lending Committee denied my request and I would receive a letter in the mail. Mail came today and indicated that my NAVY FEDERAL ACCOUNT is to NEW. Prior to pressing the No Love Button I inquired how many days had by account been active and in good standing.. I was told it had been more than 90 days and I was under the impression that these folks were generous ... Well I got coal in my stocking Smiley Sad Any chance that due to COVID19 that Mother Navy has decided to clutch her purse a little longer ? When should i try again ?

@Anonymous Am I reading your post correctly that you were approved for a Navy credit card on 2/9/20 and requested a CLI on 2/10/20?

A $1,000 starting limit suggests a marginal approval and that means you'd typically have to wait at least 180 days before you'd be approved for a CLI, and its likely the maximum increase will be 3X the current limit to $3,000.

No it's 91 days and 3 statements, always been that way nothing to do with "covid". Should try again at the timeline they indicated.

You can search the NAVY thread on the forums and find all the info out regarding navy.

Re: NFCU CLI Denial - Explanation

Standard rule for Navy is 91/3, meaning 91 days AND 3 statement cuts. Once you reach both of those, you're in the CLI window.

@Anonymous

I agree your approval in "borderline", it might be best to wait until 180 days.

Re: NFCU CLI Denial - Explanation

I hope they haven't tightened up too much. My 91/3 is coming up soon. I've heard that it's best to give it a few days beyond the 91 to let the system catch up. But who knows. I'm really hopeful for the CLI on mine. Although I've heard that it's easier to get a second card at first rather than a CLI this soon. Perhaps you should try the second card app.

I don't think the above indicates anything, they applied for a "CLI" the day after approval if that's correct, so this has no bearing on navy. Heck no issuer offers CLI day after approval, yes some can call and asked for their line to be reconsidered, but overall you don't request that.

The poster needs to wait the appropriate time but with the low starting limit, it might be best at 180 days and I am not sure a second card would be much higher.
