NFCU Credit Card Approval Process

I am looking for a new CC with generous SL and I have been reading a lot about NFCU and the SL and terms looks to be very generous.  I recently got my last baddie off my credit ( a collections) and all my Fico 8 scores shot up. TU 697, EX 698, and EQ 685. I currently have a good amount of new credit as I have been rebuilding my credit over the last two years.  You can see the cards in my siggy that I have now totalling $42k in available credit.  AoA is 4.5 years and util is 21%  I am looking for the best way of getting in with NFCU.  Do I open a savings account and then apply for a CC?  And also looking for some other stats and approvals as well.  I really appreciate any and all your input my fellow MyFicoers!!

Re: NFCU Credit Card Approval Process

easiest way is to check out the navy fed thread floating around the site under credit card applications thread.  its about 500 pages but very helpful

Current Scores EQ 689| EX 688| TU 679
Comenity 57.5k| Navy Fed 52.5k| Capital One 32.3k| Synchrony 23k| BBVA Compass 5.5k| First Commerce 4k| Barclays 1.9k|
GARDENING UNTIL APPING....

Re: NFCU Credit Card Approval Process

Hey , Navy fed is an awesome CU and really do help those rebuilding , my fiancé and I both joined in July , we both just started our credit repair and building journey at the first of this year , although we have made huge strides we are not yet where we want to be , but when we joined we both opened checking and savings. And both apped for CashRewards cc , he got an instant approval for a SL of 1600 , I know it's not alot but his scores at the time for TU were only 614, and this was his very first unsecured line of credit besides store card .
My scores were higher being 643 but I still had my SL showing as default , I had only a few payments left on my rehab when I joined Navy fed , I should have waited until I was done I know but I went ahead and apped for cash rewards cc and was initially denied .
I sent them a message asking to please reconsider their decision, and I told them of all the hard work I have put into my repair and building my credit and they approved mine but only with a 500 SL which is fine for my this was also my first unsecured line. Hope this helps , you can go on the big thread and read about diff ppl and their approvals and CLIs and all that . Good luck , also if you don't qualify for their regular eligibility you can get in thru Navy League San Diego chapter now .
