NFCU More Rewards

I recently was approved for the NFCU Flagship card and I had attempted a 2nd app immediately for the MoreRewards, however was declined. I received my letter of denial today and the reason was "Too recent new account added". (Something to that effect, don't have paper in front of me). I imagine because they just approved me for the Flagship, they were hesitant to extend another credit line. How long should I wait to reapply?

This is my last "goal" card before I start to garden and let my report do its thing. I'm torn between the NFCU more rewards or trying to get in with AMEX. If I can reapply soon for the NFCU I will probably go that route, but if not I will go for Amex.

Re: NFCU More Rewards

91 days and 3 full statements. First statement on Flagship may have been partial, so verify. Apply for More first when applying, then a CLI on Flagship.

Re: NFCU More Rewards

Congrats on your NFCU Flagship card approval . . . I believe each time you apply for a NFCU card it's a hard pull so reapplying will be based on whether it's worth another HP. Wishing you success in obtaining the More Rewards and/or the AmEx card of your choice!!!

Re: NFCU More Rewards

Thank you for the replies! So I should wait 3 full statement cycles/91 days to re-app?

If I request the CLI in 91 days, will that be a SP? Then I can use that SP to apply for the MoreRewards?

Either way, I am expecting another hard pull to gain another card in my lineup, but if I can avoid that, it would be preferable. I applied for the Amex Gold on May 15th and was declined due to Credit score, hoping to reapply on June 15 or whether I decide to wait for NFCU. Decisions decisions.

Adding another Navy card will be a hp no matter what. They do not reuse hps for 2 different ccs. You were most likely declined as you need to wait 91 day+ and 3 full statements.

Re: NFCU More Rewards

Makes sense! Thank you for the replies! I will wait the 3 statements/91 days and try again.

Conventional wisdom/majority around here says that

1) There's a wait time of 91 days/3 full statements required between when you get a card with them and being able to apply for another one. That's more than likely the culprit as to why you were denied for the 2nd card, as you applied too soon after getting the 1st card.

2) You can ask for CLI also at the 91/3 mark, and if you do it online it *should* be a SP, versus calling customer service where most say it seems to end up being HP, but there's no guarantees. The SP would be for the CLI only and they will not reuse it for a new card app. New card app will always be HP.  I wish there was a way to avoid that too though Smiley Tongue

Wait!  I thought it was apply for the new card first in case the CLI put you over their internal CL they have for you.

Yes, its recommended,  though not 100% gaurenteed,  to apply for a card before a cli request. This method  gives you a better idea where your internal limit is  but you still may receive a cli as well , why i would request as soon as one finds the app result.

Thanks @designated_knitter, you are correct. I'm blind, thinking and seeing what I'm writing in my head. Reversed it. Good catch!! 😂 🙊
