Navy Federal Credit Union

Not sure if this has been discussed but thought I would give a heads up about NFCU.

I applied for a cli on my cloc yesterday. Today I missed their call back. Then I received a message on their website where the message said I was approved once I call in to confirm my identity.

I called in and the customer service rep confirmed my identity but didn't approve the loan because it was worded that the loan was approved but as if it was a new loan. It didn't add to my existing cloc. He said the notes said my cloc was approved but locked at this amount. Well if he added to it then it would go over the locked amount that was in the notes. Very odd.

But here is what I wanted to give a heads up on. I asked him why I needed to call in. He said a fraud alert on my credit report. I explained to him I had no fraud alerts on my credit profiles. He said there has to be one cause the notes says there is one. I asked what credit bureau and he said Equifax. Then he said that in the next week or 2 they will be transitioning over to using only Transunion. He said that they are no longer using any other bureaus when considering new or additional credit and that Transunion will be their only option.

He told me this because I told him I was calling Equifax to find out why I have a fraud alert. He said don't worry about Equifax due to the new procedures they will be implementing.

Anyway I found that interesting. Would be nice if they would stop hard pulling for every request now. Lol

By the way... I called Equifax and there was no fraud alert so not sure what they are seeing. Also my new hard inquiry is labeled as a "you have a mortgage hard inquiry". So I guess clocs are classified as mortgage loans now? Lol

Re: Navy Federal Credit Union

Thanks for sharing.

I had a similar situation recently where my EQ was pulled and the bank said they needed to verify my ID but didn't tell me why...they said they couldn't verify...like you, thinking this was odd...I looked at my EQ and no fraud alerts and my reports are locked.

Then I noticed another error on my EQ as it's showing some accounts as closed when in fact they are still open and I'm paying them.  EQ may be having a larger issue right now that isn't making it's way public perhaps...not sure.

Anyhow, thanks for the heads up!  Glad they'll be going to TU for everything

Re: Navy Federal Credit Union

I switched from Wells Fargo to NFCU and have had nothing but bad luck with Navy. I still have my Wells Fargo so I'm switching all my banking back away from NFCU.

I called in a second time and accepted their counter offer. As the lady read me the rates she says "uh oh can I place you on a brief hold?" I say yes and she comes back and says "you already have a cloc". I say I am aware which is why I app'd for an increase. She places me on hold again.

Comes back 3 minutes later and explains that my approval is for a new cloc but since I already have one I can't have the increase.

When I opened the acct 16 months ago it was very tight. Then 6 months later they gave me a $20k Amex. But thats it. They haven't budged on anything. I have a self loan with them to get that 15 to 30 point bump. Not sure what I got cause my score never moved. Lol

I have an ira with them with 1500 in it. And my checking has just under $10k. Just a real crap shoot with nfcu in my experience. I see some get tons of love though.

Re: Navy Federal Credit Union

Thanks for sharing! Sorry about your troubles!!!

Id love TU pulls. All my other CU use EQ. The other lenders predominantly pull EX in NV.

Re: Navy Federal Credit Union

I sure hope they don't go to using TU for everything because if that's what they're doing, my fears about them only giving us VS3 going forward will probably come to fruition.

Sorry for the denial. I don't know what their issue is with CLOCs lately. I think $500 is very stingy. I did use it for the first time though and since I paid it off the same day, I didn't actually get charged interest which is nice because I don't like to leave money in my secondary accounts when the money could be earning me money somewhere else.

Re: Navy Federal Credit Union

I'd be happy if they do TU since everybody and their grandma here pulls EQ lol    and it's always my lowest score for whatever reason XD  (I know why just making jokes)
