Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I feel honored to be a member of this CU and to show my respect and support for our military any way I can. I did not serve, but not from want. I became of age at the end of Vietnam, I was not drafted (Draft lottery) and then was not a good time to be voluntering. I am so proud of our country and our military and want to thank those that served.

Sad to say, it's not about just the credit, its maybe about the credit and the given income.  I choose the max option and was immediately approved for $14K, not $25K.  Mind you, my FICO is over 800 and I've been an active member for decades. Smiley Mad  Was I supposed to literally enter $25K?

I couldn't find the CLOC easily so accidentally enabled the overdraft protection which prevents applying for the CLOC.  Will have to wait until at least Monday to try again.

The max button hasnt been good to me since they introduced it, but overall I prefer to enter the 25k i've had better luck with that then trying to let them give me a max CL. Don't feel bad my friend also has 800 across the boards and he tends to struggle getting any CC increases since he hates CC's with a passion.

Income might have something to do with it also, when I was talking to a LO over a mortgage she went into details about my report, didnt care that I was doing BT's, opening acount, closing account and shifting stuff around while in the process. When I pressed on she said they base alot of your increases and other determining factors on combined DTI ratio and income, meaning they look at your whole profile. I figured it had to be something in that nature because I had previously went from 1500 to 17.5k on a cli with over 46% total UTI and that specific NFCU CC was at 92% max, but over the time my over UTI has dropped into the 9% have and no balances on either NFCU card and haven't seen an increase since I last attempted 5/6 months ago and only got an increase on my 2nd card but not my 1st.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Okay... I'm terrible.

Quick question. Equifax had split my file somehow for a week in February - during which time two of my cards updated from nearly 100% util to 0 balances and the February paid on time mark and went to the empty file split. I called them to fix, but they opened disputes to get the updates from the lenders, and they are still pending 2 weeks later.

Should I wait until those update to 0 balances? Overall util is ~10%. Could I still see my increase? My 6th statement is cutting on Friday.

WAIT!

Do not apply for credit or request any cli when ANY acoount is listed under dispute.

Wait until the dispute is done and the error is resolved.

I have seen denials based solely on an account being "IN DISPUTE".

Oh, I should have mentioned I canceled the disputes because it's been 2 weeks already and I have no faith in them being resolved by Equifax before new statements cut in March.

This question was specifically about the high util reported on those two cards (was a timing error on my part) - 500/500 and 800/1000.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I would wait until the high utilization is gone.  Here is the way that I see it.  You have a 50/50 chance.  It could just be an instant approval based on the AR and a SP.  But if it's not, and you're willing to take the HP from a manual review, you want them to see that you've already taken care of that balance on those cards that are going to report here in the next couple of days.  That's my take on it.

Of course the third option would be to hit the luv button, if it's not an instant approval, call them to cancel the request and hope they catch it before they do the HP.  But from what I've read, sometimes this is a 50/50 chance as well of them catching it before the hard pull.  Do you anticipate seeing an increase in your scores with getting your utilization down, or is your overall util already under 10%?

Current Score: Eq: 823 Tu: 830
Goal Score: Eq: 850 Tu: 850

Wallet: PenFed Power Cash 50k | AMEX Blue Cash (AU) 49.5k | Cap One QSMC 26.5k | AMEX Platinum NPSL | USAA Signature Visa 25k

Score will bump, but not from those two, I also have high util reported with my cashrewards card, but it's currently near 0 as well, but didn't plan on hitting it until the 6th statement cut anyway.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Just for a data point reference for everyone:

I was approved back in August of last year for $23,700 with the lowest APR. My FICO has only gone up maybe 10 points since that time and is currently just at the 680 mark. I have ran maybe between 7-10k through the card and have always paid prior to the statement cut date. Overall utilization is <1% and this was my first attempt at a CLI on this card (I used the MAX button).

I was hoping to either hit of break through the 25k limit without a HP. I ended up with getting the review message. My guess is that would have been the outcome even if I did wait until a weekday. I called immediately and was able to cancel the request, but they did give me a scare and say the HP is usually instant and put me on hold to search.

Oh well my FICO score lives to fight again another day. I prob won't attempt a CLI with them again as it is not a priority for me during this build stage.

Final piece of data is I do NOT have direct deposit in to my checking account and have not needed to provide any POI.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

From reading the posts in this thread, I understand that you hit the maximum button hoping to get a 25K limit.

I have Cash Rewards with a 20K limit. The card was approved Jan 8th. When I'm ready to request a CLI, I will be looking for something higher than 25K. Is that a different procedure?

Yes, it is.  for anything above 25K you would input the amount you actually want and know it's a guaranteed HP (they only SP CLI up to 25K)
