Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

If you just tried for in increase this past Saturday, that would put you about 2 months from the last AR which I would think would guarantee a HP

Just sharing what I shared on another NFCU thread: I requested the max CLI on my Cash Rewards card at 3 statements, 90 days and received an EQ HP (FICO- 657) and review message on 4/22/17. Still haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming it's a no-go. So, it appears that soft versus hard pulls vary per individual. I'll continue to make due with my $14,300 SL that I rarely use. Or, I may try again after the May AR, although I can't afford another HP.

Same thing happened to me last month. I was at 90+ days, 3 statements and Feb AR...I applied for MAX on the CLI 2 weeks after the Feb AR and I ended up with an EQ HP and a denial (reasons: annual income insufficient)

I'm going to try again after this next AR and if it isn't an instant decision I'm going to message them or call them to cancel the request

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Hello Rookie08

I have been with NFCU for years & did not know how great & generous their credit cards are. I actually applied for the secured card around mid January without checking my scores because I just figured they were low. Got approved. Applied for DiscoverIt secured same day, approved. Read about how great the cards were then applied for cashRewards just for the heck of it about 4 or 5 days later & was approved $4100, scores around 570. Hoping for big increase in May!!

Not to discourage you but don't get your hopes up too much unless your scores have improved a fair amount.  The vast majority of those huge CLIs you see are on folks with scores about 80-100 points over your 570.  I started in the low to mid 500's a few years ago so I know what I speak of.  The risk of requesting the CLI before you have scores to support them is they will likely hard pull your credit and chances seem to be 50/50 that you can call or message them fast enough to cancel the HP.  Having HP's with low scores makes it harder to get credit.  This is the biggest mistake I made when I was rebuilding.  Fortunately those HP's are falling off now but it sucks to get an HP and denial at the same time. Just my 2 cents.

Best wishes

Those were my scores in January, not as of today.  But I do understand what you're saying.  Can anyone tell me if applying for a credit card before the May AR will hurt my chances of a CLI with NFCU?  It will be my first request, opened January 14th.

Any hard inquiry you take before the AR will show up on the AR - so yes, it will hurt some...can't really say how much, but the computer will be able to see it

I think I'm going to try for a CLI for the May AR.  We'll see. I'm curious when the AR will be done.  IIRC the March AR was done on the last day of Febuary.
