wrote:Just wanted to share my experiences with NFCU. I have been a member for 8 years or so, but did have any credit products until recently. While I was in rebuild mode I opened the secured card and have had it for about a year. It hasn't graduated and I haven't asked for it to be either, I don't know if it is normally an automatic graduation and they have just overlooked it or what is going on with that. After my scores improved a bit, I chanced it and app'd for a cashRewards card and was approved 1K limit. After 4 months or so and FICOs in the low-mid 700s, I requested a CLI for 25K and was countered 3K. Was a bit surprised by the low counter considering the improved FICOs and now no negative items on my CR. I read on here how some had better luck applying for a 2nd card than CLIs, and I cannot agree more! I bit the bullet, well another Navy HP bullet, and app'd for the second card (I don't count the secured card because it isn't a factor in your "exposure limit" with NFCU). I got the 24 hour review notice because I forgot to unlock my Equifax file. After unlocking, rep said give them 24 hours to review. To my surprise about an hour later, I got a message that I had been approved for the goRewards Visa with a SL of $15,000. A rep at Equifax informed me that they are required, if requested, to remove all inquiries beyond the first from the same creditor within a 30 day period. So I once again and rolled the dice. I tried for the CLOC the same day for $15k(Not sure if this matters, but I did have a courtesy $500 CLOC while I was still active duty without any credit report pulls, they just added it because I had my military pay direct deposited there. But that was closed several years ago when I left the military). After a couple hours, I had a message that I was conditionally approved for $7000. So that brings my total exposure to 25k, which must be my internal limit. Just FYI, I called Equifax and had all the inquiries that I incurred except for the first one removed. Rep did it real time, and an updated report the next day verified they were removed. I had not heard of Equifax deleting excess inquiries, just thought I would share. Sorry for the long reply, just wanted to share with everyone. Hope it helps!
@Anonymous Thanks for sharing, the data points help everyone on here.
As for the cards, i had about the same thing. I only had my acct a week or so and called in to get info on the secured card and the rep told me they would counter if declined, so i apped a CR and got the 1k like you did. took me 6 months to get a CLI and it was only for 2k more as well. meanwhile at 91/3, i apped a second card and instant 4k approval. More than my current with CLI, seemed weird, but i went with it. I swapped my CR and platinum around and got a nice 2% apr decrease.
i'm about 2ish weeks from 6 months on the 2nd card now, so we'll see how that CLI goes, but i after 91/3 i apped the Amex and got 15k. figured why not push my luck and apped a cloc and got 14k. So while we arent seeing the huge CLI's, new cards and some history with navy has gone along way for you and I and everyone else.
To all the new Navy memebers, just give it time and they will reward you nicely.
Today my third statement posted (91+) on my Flagship Visa and decided to pull the trigger to see if I would be approved for the More Rewards. I was skeptical and as the wheel turned, I was waiting for the "Sorry, we can't approve you...." and then, this!!!! Started in end of July with a $2,100 CR, November 3rd instant approval on the FS $15K and now today $15K!!!! Wahhhoooooo

@Anonymous that is great news, congrats my friend!! Wow, its already been 90 days on your Flagship...time flies!! All your hard work really paid off in a big way today!! Fantastic!!
I know I don't have to tell you to have a nice weekend ahead!!
Thank you @wade!
I know, can you believe it?! I remember that morning like it was yesterday! I wasn't anxious this time, it was just on a whim, I wasn't waiting and anticipating "having" to get another card. I think your heart automatically pumps harder while you watch the wheel spin, but this time I don't think that I would have been too disappointed if it was declined after that last instant approval with the $15K SL. But when I saw the Contratulations... and another $15K SL, I couldn't believe it!
You have a great weekend as well my friend!
Wow, great SL on the AMEX! Congrats!
Thanks @jlitnns!

@Anonymous good to see you on this thread @Anonymous! You've done such a great job of strategizing and it's really paid off. I'll be watching for your next success at Navy!!
Just noticed that this thread is at 6,000 posts lol!! Thanks to CA for startin' it up, this thread changed my life and to everyone that's contributed...you guys ROCK!!
Thank you again @wade!
My scores are slowly increasing, in fact just before I saw this next post, I got an alert that my EQ just increased 5 pts up to 643 (finally into the 640s)!
I have two baddies that I have to try and negotiate removal with PIF which I'm sure will help me immensly. The other thing I have to do is get my little self into the garden. I have had a very tough time holding back. I have to take control and just watch my scores grow. Way too many inquiries! Keeping my util super low between 1 and 3 %...
Fico 8 Scores as of today:
EX: 665 (5 points to "Good")!
TU: 648 (hoping for another MyFico alert today with another increase)
EQ: 643 (Yay, out of the 630s)!
Ditto on that @wadedalton!
