I am an AU on a NFCU card my husband got in Aug. with navy, would my next card be considered my second card with them? 3/91 is next week and I'd like to try for the CR. I only have about 7 months of credit history, and the other limits are $200,$500 and then the AU on his 10k navy Amex. AAOA is 5 months, scores are around 770 and profile is clean. Will his 10k amex play into how much they will start me with or will they go off my own two cards with low limits? Will it matter if my AAOA is 5 months or should I wait till next month where my AAOA is 6 and oldest card near 8 months. I really want to get the CR while they have the 0% intro offer.
For his Amex, should he ask for a CLI this month or wait for the six month mark. I've read a lot of this thread but I am still unsure if people are still getting CLI at 91 days or not (looks like they are all hps even after ARs?) His profile is clean except for a baddie that falls off EQ in feb. will having that on there effect his chance for a CLI?
Thanks for the help!
So there have been mixed reviews on the timing for CLIs at NFCU, so I asked. This is the response they gave.
6+ year member w/ 28.5k cashrewards - figured I'd app for a 2nd card today and was approved for Platinum w/ $25k limit.
Income just over 100k with 725-750 score depending on latest util reporting.
Score dips into the low 700s each year as I use the yearly 0% balance transfer offer to pay off large chunks of student loan.
Long time creeper, first time poster, seeking advice.
About 11 months ago I desperately needed a car, and had terrible credit (A little over 500 on both TU and EQ from CreditKarma) from being an auth. user on parents closed write off card. Otherwise, no credit history. Got denied for an auto loan from Navy Fed in December 17' but approved for one for $13k at 14% with USAA (only used $9.5k on the purchase, currently paid down to $7k). I didn't really have a choice at the time so I went with it and have been making double payments/looking forward to refinancing since.
3 months ago I applied for a Navy Fed Cash Rewards card and was approved with a CL of $500.
My Navy Fed EQ FICO History shows:
September - 555
October - 595
November - 604
My Wells Fargo Experian FICO History shows:
September - 670
October - 695
November - 708
Credit Karma currently shows:
Transunion - 672
Equifax - 635
TU shows 2 HP's, EQ shows 3 HP's
No derogatory marks
26% utilization
100% payment history
I've been careful to keep my CashRewards below $150 balance since opening, and have used it for almost $3k of purchases so far.
My 3rd statement just came out yesterday on Navy Fed's site for my CashRewards. I am interested in: opening another card with them, increasing my CashRewards LOC, and possibly refinancing my auto loan (might trade the car in for a lease soon instead though, haven't talked to dealers yet because I didn't want any new pulls on my report while applying for CLI's).
USAA approved me for auto where NavyFed wouldn't in part because NF wouldn't include my Post 911 GI Bill BAH in my income, where USAA did.
I was hoping to get advice on what steps to take, and in what order I should take them to achieve these goals with Navy Fed. I'd be fine with waiting a few more months to look into refinancing or trading in the vehicle, if it meant increasing my score and getting better rates. I'm not sure how much of a dip to expect from applying for a new card and a CLI from Navy. All of these accounts and loans are joint with my partner who has never been late on payments. Her scores are a mystery rn but almost certainly 700+. Our income has gone up slightly in the last 3 months as well.

@Anonymous wrote:I thawed EQ to go for another card. I figured might as well ask for CLIs on my two cards with Navy. In the past, I was hoping for SP luv only to be told to thaw so they could HP. Tonight, I'm letting them but they have been in review for a few hours already. Hours, can you believe it

The review might be because they are pulling TU for most new card apps (my app in July was TU).
I meant I thawed to go for another card with a different issuer (Penfed). But in any case, all my reports are thawed right now (EQ, EX,TU). They will go back into the vault at the end of the week.
Ah, gotcha. Yeah, they've been pulling EQ for CLIs recently (although as you likely know they have the ability to hit any of them).
Hopefully you'll hear good news soon!
So after removing the freeze on EQ, they tell me I have reached my max unsecured credit limit with them. AND they didn't even HP EQ. For reference; I have Platinum at 44K and Cash Rewards at 12.5K. I also have a 15K CLOC. I was trying to get that Platinum to 50K just because.
Probably time and building credit experience. On every you've had your navy card for 6 months ask for a CLI or app for another card. 91 days and 3 statements works for most, but with limited credit history I'd wait six months and the next card they give you should have a much higher limit.
DH approval - $24.1K Platinum Card. I chose the Visa for him. Scores 760s-780s across all 3 CRAs. No derogs, perfect credit history for decades. This is his first and probably only, NFCU card. He's not interested in another card at this point.
Congratulations! I know it feels good to see your creditworthiness keep increasing :-)
