Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

You are correct about that. I couldn't spend that amount of money if I tried. I've taken all the knowledge I've gained since my credit journey began and taught my oldest child (19) and my 17 year old everything I've learned so that they don't make the same mistakes I did when I was their age. So far my 19 year old has made me proud and has handled her credit responsibly. For 19 with a credit score better than mine, hers is sitting around 730-747.
Now my only problem is my husband can't find out about the new card 😂😂😂😂

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

KellieSquared,

Excellent and congrats! So good to hear stories like this. I have also gained valuable insight and info because of this forum and have passed on my knowledge to my 19-year-old son in hopes that he will NOT make the same mistakes I did. I got him an NFCU secured card back in March (his first credit card ever) with just a $250 limit lol and he’s been managing it responsibly and now has a 680 EQ FICO 9. By the time he graduates college (he’s finishing up his sophomore year) he will be sitting pretty. He has no idea how fortunate he is to be able to establish a relationship with NFCU also early in his life lol.

As for me, I just joined NFCU back in January in hopes of building a relationship for a car loan I plan on trying to get late next month. Opened a savings account (to save funds for the down payment) and got a CashRewards card. They only gave me a SL of 1000 on the CashRewards card though. Current FICO 8s are EX 688 EQ 673 TU 702 (was in the 500s across the board back in October 2018). I haven’t requested a CLI yet even though I’m more than 90 days in and have had 4 statements. Hoping NFCU will show me some love in the near future after all my reports show AZEO by the end of this month and my scores jump a few points.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

question!

1. can you combine limits with NFCU and close a card?

2. is 25k still the highest SP limits?

I have 2 cards a Flagship at 25k and a cash rewards at 22k they have been at that limit for 4-5 years. Cards were opened in 2010. 0 balance now after being high for a couple years of building our business.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

So as I previously stated, I'm posting an update now that I've received a response for the CLI I requested. Like I said yesterday, I didn't think I would receive an increase because they were so generous with my starting limit on my 2nd card yesterday. Well, when I woke up this morning I checked my email and there was an email from Navy. I began reading it and to my surprise they granted an increase!!! My new limit is $13,600!!!! That brings my grand total for the last 3 months to $38,600 just from Navy alone. I feel absolutely blessed and feel like this has been a dream. All of this couldn't have happened at a better time when I needed it the most. It's allowed me the breathing space I needed and I'm so grateful. Again, thank you to ALL of you on this site for sharing the info you have and helping all of us. It really does take a village.

Yes, It's still a case by case basis on if Navy will do that for you, but it does happen.

2. is 25k still the highest SP limits?

No, you can get a higher CLI's and some auto's have taken people over 25k.  25k is usually when they start asking for POI.  If you have provided that, then it is possible to get more from a CLI with them.  YMMV, but always expect the HP, and be happy if it's only an SP tho.

@swpopham  Hope to hear of your success if you decide to try for a CLI over 25k.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Since I got my Flagship a few weeks ago I've been contemplating what to do with my cashRewards visa.

I finally settled on PCing to the Amex. So sent a secured message Friday night and got the following reply today.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Ive been contemplating the same thing! I got my FS a few weeks ago as well. The points structure really accent each other and I'm not certain my CR will get much use.

I'm on the fence for one reason and that is me applying for the amex 3 months post Flagship most likely would yield a higher SL. I was just declined for a CLI on my Cash Rewards but thats because I did my Flagship before hand and recieved 25k.

Between the Amex and Flagship there really is no reason for me in my major spend categories to ever get under 2 points. I just want to take advantage of my spending limits. And I would be missing out on the SUB if I PCd as well.

Perhaps I'll wait 3 months and catch the amex right before the SUB disappears and reallocate my Cash Rewards SL over to it.. Ahh

I need help lol

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

I called customer service last night with some member deals questions and ended up PCing my CR to the AMEX  after all. Lol

It took all of 5 minutes and as always they were very accommodating.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

NFCU took my flagship limit and moved it over to the Cash rewards. No hassles whatsoever. They adviced me to use any points before they did it, I already redeemed the other day.  So easy breezy
