I've been biding my time with NFCU for some CLI magic or just grab the 2nd card.  I went for the new card knowing it would probably be bigger than my 15K Platinum from 08/15/2019. Bam, 25K Flagship.  They served me well but saying goodbye to my Merrick, Cap 1 QS and CNFA Firestone cards as soon as this reports.  Current TU credit score 750. Went to review for about 3 hours before approved.

Nice...   and nice score jump this year!

My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in Fall of 2016, she is better now.  We 98% maxxed out our cards (no lates though) and had a few small medical collections hit us.  We finally paid everything off this Spring.  Scores are better than ever.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd add a DP. After my 91 days/3 statements, I applied for a CLI on my NFCU Amex and was only granted a 900 dollar increase. It was a softpull, so I'm not complaining. This is despite spending 20k on the Amex in 3 months and more than 25k in ACH deposits (account just used for paying the credit card).

Quite frankly, I pushed the button too soon and before my other cards reported 0 balances. Moral of the story, be patient! Smiley Happy I'll apply for a second card in 6 months.

Unique DPs to me:

Approx 660 NFCU Fico
3 year old Chapter 7 bk due to overwhelming medical debt.

SL on NFCU 5k.

Letter in the mail simply stated I'm at maximum unsecured exposure for the time being.

Fico Scores: F9 EQ 791 TU 803 EX 781 (Oct 2024 updated)
Virtually slap me if I apply for anything else before August 2026 and remind me I'll never get my U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite (USBANK retired this card this card in 2024).
In garden from July 27th 2024 to August 2026.
New Accounts: 6/12 11/24. DTI less than 5%. TCL Personal 333,163. Auto loan: SETF (estimated) initially owed 47000 / Current 32000 owed @ 60 months / 3.75% / April 2023 origination

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Denied for SP cli on Dec 11 after Navy Train started rolling. Stated reason was: Max exposure. Had balance of 4100/10K. Card about 2 yrs old EQ 9 was 699. Took it all with a grain of salt knowing a no right now isn’t a no forever with Navy. Continued to read if the awesome success nearly everyone was having and decided to try again. Asked for 8K and got 4K!! I’ll take that!! Absolutely nothing in my profile changed just got the right rep!! Praying the SP love lasts because I have 2 other cards also! Long term member with lots of Navy products.

Current Score:EQ 674t> TU 697EXP 700

NFCU questions

I’ve recently joined NFCU, and applied for their cash rewards card and was approved for a SL of $500. My question is, I know the 91/3 rule, however I’m about 1 year 1 month post CH7 discharge, if I apply for a CLI at 91/3 will they only increase up to $1k or not at all? Also if I applied for a second card at the 91/3 or 6 month mark, would the same apply to that card as well, or would they possibly go above $1k? I have only started a savings account with them so far, and have no gotten my card in the mail yet either, so I’m curious about how to go about building the relationship, and getting a higher limit, or higher limit second card. Max the $500 card/PIF each month etc etc. Any advice?

DP’s -
Discharged November 2018, current scores are EQ:675, TU:671, EX:670(Fico 8), Fico 9s are higher, with TU at 691 which is what they pulled for my rewards card. I have an auto loan/several other credit cards(highest being Savor@$4450, and BB&T at $4500) most of them have 6 months-1 year positive payment history/usage. Income: $64k DTI: around 12%. 4-5 inquires across each CRA. Only my Savor card has a balance, 14% of its limit, all other cards are 0.

Re: NFCU questions

No one can answer this Q for you definitively as every profile is different. What I can say is it seems, based on posts read here, that those with a recent BK discharge have better luck with NFCU CLIs after 6 months rather than at 91/3. I've seen some luck with new card approvals after 91/3 though. I would suggest you be patient though - use the card, PIF each month, and try for either a CLI or new card (or both) at your 6 month mark to increase your chances at getting the results you want.

Good luck!

Re: NFCU questions

Its adviseable to wait 181 days from approval.  That's generally the case for CLIs from NFCU, and given the major derogatory, the longer wait would put you in a better position by allowing you to build your internal score.  Also, in most cases the maximum CLI they will approve is 3 times the current limit.

Re: NFCU questions

I keep seeing talk of an internal score, but I have no idea how to access that score, I’ve looked and can’t see it. I’m guessing it’s because I haven’t actually gotten the card in the mail yet. Also, when it comes to building history with them, would a SSL help in that aspect? Not necessarily for building credit because I already have an installment, but for earning a better relationship with them rather. The welcome call lady tried to talk me into moving my direct deposit to them but I haven’t fully decided if that’s what I want to do, given that my local credit union has my auto loan.
