That sounds better than Amex's 7 - 10 day letter, but still not an instant approval. At least they pulled my best score, TU @ 727. So I sit and wait it seems.
Don't be discouraged! NFCU is so backed up now even CLI requests are taking a day or so to process. NFCU is not shy about denying on the spot so a 24-48 hour delay does not mean much at all.
Got my fingers crossed and expect to see a new thread in the Approvals section soon! 😀
Sadly it is not to be. Got my decision by the end of the business day: denied
Sorry to hear about the denial. Just a quick DP. I tried for my 2nd card (Platinum) at 91/3 and it was a no go. Decided to be the Guinea Pig and tried again at 4 statements. Yup, no go. Tried again at 5 statements, approved $14600. That was a couple of months ago. I know you took the HP but I think you said you have had 4 statements cut. Maybe give it another try after statement number five and go for something other than FS. If it's approved and over $5K, you can always PC it to the FS right away. I took three HP's to get the Platinum but it was worth the SL to me. I've wasted more HP's than that and have nothing to show for it (not to name names but thank you PenDread)!
You'll be successful, they probably just want a bit more history!!
Sorry to hear this from you...😕
I guess Navy needs more time

Oh no! Sorry to hear of the denial. I agree that time was not on your side in this instance. Another 6 months or so will probably give a positive result. What reason was given for the denial?

No Immediate reason; I'll get a letter in the usual 7 - 10 days. I suspect that it's one or all of these reasons:
1) Lack of history with Navy
2) Lack of credit history in general
3) Utilization on other cards and a lot of recent charges (getting ready to move.)

Sorry for your denial
I just joined Navy Federal last night and was approved for the Platinum Credit Card this morning with a $1,000 credit limit. I am excited as this is my first unsecured card since my charge off in 2015.
I've been reading this thread and see the suggestions of charging the card and paying it in full befoee the statement cuts. Does that mean I should pay $100 on the card and pay it off so the statement shows $0 balance? Would this hurt my scores by not using any of my credit?
I appreciate any input.

Welcome to the Navy family! And congrats on your card!!!
What does the rest of your credit profile look like?
One thing preached around these forums is AZEO to boost your score. That's All your cards reporting a Zero balance Except One. With your car purchase coming up, it will be nice to have that extra bump! This has been proven to be effective with 3+ revolving accounts.
If you have less, just make sure you have one card reporting a balance <8.9% Utilization, as there is a score penalty for not having any cards report a balance.
What you have described is the correct way to have your balance be $0. But without knowing your other cards, I unfortunately cannot tell you if having it report 0 will help or hurt you!

If you are trying to play the score game, there is AZEO amongst other things you can do but you can get advice on that in general credit. Imho, you need not limit yourself to only using 10% of your new card because that is what is expected. Use your card as you see fit. Navy doesnt mind pif or carry balance though its always best to try and pif so you need not worry about it later. Its ok to let a balance report then pay or pay as you go, as i often do. Like stated, how you are trying to manage your scores depends on how much you allow to report but to get more luv from Navy it doesnt really matter so long as they get paid
We're Going Streaking!!😆
