Subject: Message from Navy Federal Credit Union [Incident:201205-XXXXXX]Navy Federal Response 12/04/2020 : Thank you for your credit card request. To ensure the timely and accurate processing of your PLATINUM VISA application, we ask that you fulfill the requests that correspond to the following numbers in the list below:
1. Provide proof of the primary applicant's income (e.g., two most recent paystubs, Social Security, retirement, disability statements, and/or last tax return filed with all schedules if self-employed). (Technically Employed by my Corporation)I am sure it was the $25K threshold that triggered it.
Nice hit Smart!! You have another coming next week or so right?
@Anonymous Congratulations on a great pick-up!! Good luck with the recon!
@Anonymous wrote:I swear NFCU UW must know which of us are MF'ers and just give us the CLIs so we leave them alone because it's crazy how much they let us low income people have lol.
Asked for a CLI on my $4500 cashRewards to $10K. Knew they would counter with $8500 or less. Checked this afternoon and sure enough, they bumped it to $8500.
This plus the $15K Platinum and $500 CLOC brings me to $24K exposure and over 127% of my income.
I am tempted to ask on the Platinum too but quite frankly I feel ridiculous punching in $19K and then punching in less income than the limit I'm asking for so I'll probably just wait 6 months and ask for another CLI on this card and try to get it to $15K too.
Congrats Saeren! NFCU has been generous to me as well!
@OmarGB9 wrote:Did I mess up? I forgot the order for new app/CLI to be honest, but anyway, I apped for a More Rewards (and was approved! Albeit for only $1k) card. I tried asking for a CLI online on my secured nRewards afterwards, but it said it was unable to process and to call their customer service number. Did I mess up?
Is a $1k Navy approval borderline kinda like an Amex $1k approval? Is bucketing a thing with Navy? Will it still grow quickly?
Thanks in advance to any answers.
Congratulations on your approval!
I haven't heard of NFCU bucketing cards. It'll grow.
@M_Smart007 When did Navy tighten up the reigns on the CLOC? I opened mine in 2013 and back then it was encouraged to ask for 15k from the start. Is this a COVID thing?

I believe they started tightening up over a year ago ..IIRC
Took Me a Total of (3) HP's from start 5/2019 to $15K ..
@EOL2018 Yeah like @M_Smart007 mentioned, the CLOC is a tough one now. A couple members of my family applied for CLOC's back in the fall of 2017 and they instantly were approved for the entire $15K. Now the $500 seems pretty meh but it's the only way in it seems. Don't know that I would take a HP for a for a CLOC CLI unless I really needed it.
Of course the CSR told you to wait six months lol, that is the normal answer. 29 days is borderline for a full statement. Really, really close but I would probably wait until the fourth statement since the new card app will be a HP but that's your call. Either way you are so close which is exciting for sure!!

NFCU CLOC doesn't count towards FICO 8/9 UTIL%, correct?
I'm stuck at 3k and have wanted to ask for 15k CLI, but after hearing all the declines, including myself, I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
@OmarGB9 I totally agree with @Mr_Mojo_Risin, no buckets! I have a CR ($21K), Platinum ($18K) and went for the third card MR in September. Instantly approved (yaay!) for $1K (ugh!). I guess they were underwelmed with my request haha!! I'll be trying for a CLI at the end of December so I'm hoping it will grow.
I'll give you an update either way!!! Fingers crossed that we both see some growth on the cards in 2021!
Wow!! I'll consider myself lucky then.. I wonder why they tightened up then since it wasn't COVID-19 related. Mine has a 15% rate seems like they would want to make $$ off of those who keep balances on it 🤷🏻♀️
