I can't recall...  if denied for a CLI due to max unsecured, does that reset the 181 day clock?  I am wondering as I have a card that is eligible as of today.

Nope, no clock reset. Wait for 183 days though. Its pretty much never 181 days, 183 minimum. They are likely going by half of a year in days which would be 182.5 = 183 rounded up.

@Anonymous  183 days? Is this a recent change? I ask because so far I've successfully gotten 3 CLI at 181 days.  I'm due for my 4th one today. I guess if I need to wait 183 days now it is only another 2 days.

This has been the deal for a good while now. Lots of people getting denied at 181 and approved at 183. If it's been working for you, go for it. Myself and a number of others have been denied at 181.

Hi everyone,

Everyone here is awesome!  I've been reading these forums for over a year and following your advice to a T.  Thank you so much.  At this point it would be selfish not to share my DP.

I was just approved for a Flaglship Rewards card with a $25,000 SL!!!!   I started off being denied for a Cashrewards card in September of 2020.  I immediately applied for a secured nRewards card with a limit of $300 and was approved. At the time I also had a Cap1 Quicksilver One card with a $2,600 CL.

On aprox 10 FEB 2021 I was upgraded to a CashRewards card with $2,000 CL. My 3rd statement was cut on 8 May 2021 (yesterday) and today the long anticipated moment of truth had finally arrived.  Following everyone's advice I applied for the Flagship Rewards card (best fit for my current spending) before applying for a CLI on my CashRewards card.  I was immeditely approved with a $25,000 SL and 9.99% APR.  I can't believe it!! Both the CL and APR are better than I had even hoped for.  My Cap1 QS1 has an APR of 24.49% and my CashRewards has an 18% APR.

Since being approved for my nRewards and ever since it was upgraded to a CashRewards I have never left a balance on my card.  I don't even leave a balance come report date so utilization always shows as 0% even though I was typically spending $1,500-$2,200 per month.  I know some suggest it's smart to leave a small balance, and they are probably right.  I just felt more at ease not doing so.

Current Credit Scores:

Experian: 665 (just dropped 20 points a week ago for a currently undiscernable reason)

NFCU FICO 9: 689 (also dropped 20 points a week ago)

Transunion: 708 (down 9 points do to the inquiry from above)

Thanks again for everything!  Yall are amazing.  I'm not sure where I would be without all your help!

Congrats on your successes!

The reason a small balance is recommended is because you get a scoring penalty for all cards at $0 and creditors don't see you using credit so they have no incentive to approve you for new credit.

Oh ok! Thank you! Well, only 1 hour and 40 minutes until day 182 so I'll at least wait until then!😂

Thank you.  I have a spreadsheet that is set to 184 to be safe.  I was just approved for a card Saturday and had the limit recon'd today.  I suspect I will get the max unsecured but I suppose I will test my luck.  If it isn't approve, I'll wait a month.  Thanks again!

Good luck! 🍀🤞

I just did it...  I think.  I got the "were working on getting the website..." after hitting done.  I think that has happened before and the CLI request was actually sent.  We will see in a day or two, or three.

What a difference a week makes.  Approved for the 4k increase I asked for.  I had sent that successful SL recon for my CB card and now NFCU seems to really like me.  I didn't think I would get this CLI after that big approval this week but they gave me the full Covid CLI.

@spiritcraft1  Congratulations on your Navy 4K increase 👍 and congrats on your PSECU Founders approval! 🍻

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Got my letter I was denied for "reaching navy federal maximum unsecured limit" citing equifax score of 810/818 I thought fico 9 max was 850 but ok. I'm thinking it's because I just got an increase on another card, any dps of how long to wait until I try again probably a month or two at least, I was considering recon through SM but don't want to risk a hard pull

Did you request a CLI prior to the 91/3 for one of the cards

Did you apply for a CLI before the 185 days since your last approval?

Sounds like they used a mortgage score. They do that sometimes.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards
