So far every single limit increase with Navy Federal was a soft pull for me and my wife, 5 total. We always do them either on the app or website. I've heard if you call in and actually speak with a rep that's when it's a hard pull.
My recent CLI with them was a SP.

Her credit score on the letter was 789.
I was pretty surprised, however when I looked at her account I found that the card was over its limit by about $20 when the CLI was requested. I am guessing this is the actual reason for the denial.
So DW 7th Statement cut yesterday on her cashRewards Visa. Planning a famly trip and needing a bigger limit card decided to app for the More Rewards card today. Prequal site showed her approved so we went for it. Auto approved for $11,000 at 12.99%! Too bad the SUB went down, now only $100 instead of $250 but may consider product change to Flagship for travel anyway.
Decided to try again on the CLI on her cashRewards requested $10,000 got the 24hr notice it is currently showing a $1.03 credit and put about $184 on the card in the past month.
Congrats on her approval!! Keep us updated about the CLI 😁

What statment had cut when you were denied. What was your credit score at that time. Do you bank with NFCU, do you have direct deposit?

I think it is so weird that they do a HP when you get a person to help. Maybe its some form of automatic system that bypasses the human intervention that requires a hard trigger when requesting increase in limits. I don't know just sayin.
That news is awesome though.
@MickeyGMoney wrote:I've seen a lot of very recent posts here state that Navy now does soft pulls if you request a CLI online. I'm wondering still whether it's soft or hard. Their site (https://www.navyfederal.org/resources/articles/personal-finance/credit-limit-increase.html) says "it will create a 'hard inquiry' on your credit history."
Is it 100% soft pull to request a CLI online?
Great question, I wonder if it is a pandemic thing. Reading the post, I have only seen SP of late.
So here is my profile before I request second NFCU CC and CLI on first card.
I have a SSL that started out at $3,500 but is now paid down to $285 on auto pay for $10 per month from external account.
661 TU, been a NFCU member for 3 months. I keep 5 digit savings with them.
I have 3k cash rewards, the first month before they reported to cra's I had $486 balance. I regulary charge $4,500 per month but payoff five days before closing statment. So always starts out fresh with zero balance.
I have Total Credit Limit of $4,200 between all my cc, but only a 3 dollar balance left on one of my cards. I do use all of my cards each month but I have paid all four down to zero each month except for 2 months out of the 10 months that I have had the cards.
My question is will that be frowned upon because I never carry balances? Will it hurt my chances of a second NFCU cc?
