Because the prequalification tool said prequalified for all their cards, AMEX just approved me for the Aspire, and I've heard on here about the easy(ier) standards they have. And not necessarily surprised, just seeking info.
@FesteringTTT Navy is completely different from banks and most CU's for that matter. They are not as much concerned with scores and profile to an extent. Navy is very big on DTI (debt to income) and history with Navy. Having some accounts that are closed, and some you are paying on still will raise both your Util and more importantly your DTI. If you do not want a secured card you can wait till you have an offer for a unsecured card, or you can get the secured card, build your history with Navy. Even with a secured card you can app for another card at 91/3, or wait till it graduates and then app another one. Do what is best for you and your credit goals. Credit is very much a marathon and not a sprint. Took me a little while to figure that one out myself.

I know this thread is huge, and we have some newer visitors, so i wanted to put this up so that maybe it will help with questions...
Navy is the best CU ever (as if we on here didn't know that) lol
1. Navy is mostly concerned with DTI and history w/them for approvals, not inq, util or score sensative.
Dirty profiles can be approved, and if your DTI is in check or really low, you could get a large SL... YMMV
Clean profiles tend to get lower APR's, and higher incomes do tend to start with better SL's provided DTI in check.
Eligibilty - Armed services (active or veterans) Immediate family (mom/dad, bro/sis, or grandparent) aunt/uncle not elig. Sponsored by a member of Navy, Backdoor thru Navy league currently closed.
2. Navy uses Fico9. As far as pulls, most commonly we see TU for new cards, and EQ for CLI's and new loan pulls. Fico is refreshed on the website around the 4th-7th of each month, and the SP was done at the end of the previous month. EX is rare, and only if they can not access the other 2.
3. You can have a maximum of 3 cards with Navy, spread out by 91/3 for approval (maybe 6 months if dirty profile) Max limit is 50k per card, except Flagship which is 80k
4. All the card have the same underwriting to get approved for, Only exceptions is that Flagship has a Min 5k SL
5. CLI requests are eligible at 91/3, unless you have been approved for one then it is 180 days. Any CLI request over 25k has a greater potential to be asked for POI. We are starting to see a lot of SP CLI's, not sure how long that will last. Old saying for Navy is expect the HP, be happy if it's an SP.
6. Each card is seperate, so provided it's been 91/3 or 180 if approved, you can ask for a CLI on all your cards same day
How mucn you get will depend on DTI/history, and how much your internal limit with them is. (no they will not tell us what that number is, so you just have to ask for what you want and see what happens)
7. CLOC (checking line of credit) is a loan product, so it will most likely pull EQ. Most never have to use it for it to show on your reports.
It is nice to have the overdraft protection, but will cost you an HP, so decide wisely.
8. Auto/Home Mostly the same with DTI/History being the main factors. Please reach out in those sub-forums for more info.
Look forward to hearing of all your Navy successes, and we are here to help with your questions too
I just applied and was approved for the NFCU Platinum card.
They pulled my TU score only which is 713 and approved me for $5600. I feel this is quite low compared to Chase who set me up on 16k and 9k and as my dti is super low and my credit card utilization always stays below 3%.
I have been out of the country for nearly 20 years and rebuilding my credit so I am thrilled. More importantly, they gave me 5.99% interest which is their lowest rate.
All of my scores have stayed stubbornly around the low 700's for the past several months. I have a personal loan from them I got in August 2019 that will drop to 8% today after a payment. Hopefully this and 91 days will see a decent cli in Jul/Aug and improved scores!

Also curious if anyone has any inight.
Prequel tool said i was prequalified for several cards ( I know it doesnt mean for sure)
Was given a CLI of 4k about a month or so ago
And for 2nd card and was declined. I have a chap 7 dc dec 2018 and no layes since. FICO 8 is 735 and income is 80k.
Hubby had the same prequels, apped and was also denied. His score is a bit lower, at about 695 (not really sure why) but he was denied as well.
No lates since before chap7 or new account for over a year.
Current cards with navy sit at 6k and we've had them almost a year and a halfeach and we both were trying for a 2nd card. 🤷♀️
Called to ask for internal score and was told they dont give that number out and I couldnt speak to anyone in credit cards to try to recon
@Anonymous
We have bks dc same date and roughly the same scores, so I'm a bit surprised by your wall given what I've gotten with Navy. What is your DTI? My income is a bit higher, but I have substantial student loan debt. Do you bank (checking + dd) with Navy?
