@Anonymous wrote:Can someone who has the flagship card give me some data points? I really really want that card for the 80k limit as I would likely use it heavily!
my scores across the board are low 700s.. I only have 1 card with NFCU got it about 3 weeks ago with a SL of $1,000.. I know it's low but I've switched my direct deposit over and I've maxed the card out since receiving it and plan on doing so in the next 3 months paying it in full before statement date..
what is the likelyhood of me getting approved for the flagship card come 91/3?
I came with a Flagship question as well. Don’t have the card, but I can provide a DP: March 5th, Flagship app declined, does not qualify for minimum required credit line. March 28th, More Rewards app instantly approved at $15000, reusing the March 5th HP. 🤷♀️
Ok I am a little confused.. so you applied for the flagship on the 5th and it was a no go, you then randomly applied 23 days later for a more rewards card and got 15k? Is there like some reason you have to wait 23 days to reapply for another card after being declined? Is this also some sort of rule?
No I think that was just them randomly applying again just to see what happens/wanting to try again. You don't have to wait to try again, but I mean it would be prudent to do so, though it'd probably be better to wait more than just 23 days, IMO.
Thank you for the response! I know it's case by case and not two cases are alike but from what I'm reading and my history with my low limits.. it's probably best to just try their other products like their Amex card and just work my way to a flagship over time?
I'll share my data points on getting the flagship. From what I've read and learned from others on this forum, the Flagship min credit line required was $5k with other cards before applying for the flagship. So, I opened a checking and savings with NFCU in February of 2019. Did the nRewards card with a $200 security deposit. After it graduated in august (IIRC) to the cash rewards and a $2000, i applied for the more rewards in November once i was passed my 91/3. Applied for the More Rewards and got a SL of $15k. Waited for my 91/3 which was march of 2020 and applied for the flagship. Approved instantly with a $15k SL. Every 91 days, I've been asking for a CLI on all my cards since its all been SP.
So as of right now, this is what it looks like for me in 2021:
Cash Rewards $6500
More Rewards $27,000 (recent DP on this from a post i did)
Flagship Rewards $27,000
hopefully that was helpful.

My point is that, though the usual DPs suggest otherwise, I’m questioning whether there’s more to a Flagship decline than just not qualifying for the minimum credit line.
To answer your question, yes, we did submit a second app later in the month, but I wouldn’t call it random.
March 4: Large score increase on Navy EQ FICO, so we took advantage. Instant approval for PenFed PCR $7500 and CLI on CashRewards #2, $1000 to $3000.
March 5: “Preapproved” for everything at Navy. Tried for Flagship in an attempt to force a higher CL on a Navy card. Declined.
March 13: Letter arrived confirming denial was due to minimum required credit line. Figured that signified that they didn’t want to extend another $5k, but there might be $4k available. CLI approved on CashRewards #1 from $1500 to $3000.
Started considering a rewards strategy. With the 2% PCR, we don’t need three 1.5% cards, including two identical CashRewards, now at $3k each. Figured maybe we could reallocate and PC to a $5k Flagship and a $1k More Rewards, because we don’t really have anything for gas stations. Then I thought that a $1k More Rewards might be achievable as a new card, since we were exploring the hypothetical potential that Navy was still willing to extend credit, just not as high as $5k.
March 28th: “Preapproved” for everything again, applied and approved for More Rewards $15000 using March 5th HP.
Now just trying to figure out why $5k was out of the question on the 5th but well under what they approved on the 28th, on the same HP. Makes me wonder if there’s more to the Flagship than the minimum CL. But there’s no 23 day rule, at least not that I’ve ever heard of. This is just how it worked out for us.
@M_Smart007 wrote:@Anonymous,
I would use the MoreRewards and get your $250 sign up bonus on! (count you blessing in disguise)
Would wait 91/3 and ask for a cli on that same card (YMMV)
Then think about a possible PC to The Flagship?, if that is the card you truly desire.
ALL JMHO
Thanks for the ideas! 👍 Definitely plan to see out the SUB, and I actually want to keep the More Rewards. I was applying for it expecting a $1k approval, so it’s no disappointment! But since we added a 2% PCR in March, I think a $6k Flagship would be better for our spend than the two $3k CashRewards cards that we have now. Just hoping that the Flagship decline doesn’t mean they won’t PC to it. I’d be happy with the $15k More Rewards and $6k Flagship. Don’t really need much more in terms of CLIs, and the option would be open to apply again for a third card in the future.
So I've posted about my experiences a few times within this thread, but I'm not as well-versed on NFCU's secured card, which my step-son went with as his first credit card. It was opened right around the new year with the hopes it would graduate not long after he graduates college (mid-May).
He has been responsible with the card, typically using it once a month and always keeping utilization <8.9%. I keep extra eyes on his account to make sure it is paid on time.
Is there anything else to be done, besides just giving it time? I've seen the option to request a CLI - how would this work with a secured card?
So my 91/3 is coming up and I was so wondering if it is a good idea to not only apply for my second card and CLI but also apply for a CLOC.
NFCU More Rewards: $23,100
NFCU Cash Rewards: 25,000

No news yet. So I'm sure its no go for now. BK7 discharged in March so I probably need to hit the garden for now.

Hey There @southernblueeyes What was your starting CL and what did they graduate you to?

I thought we needed to wait 6 mo for second CLI requests? So you have been getting 2nd, 3rd, 4th...CLI at 91 days on your NFCU cards?
@oorhett Congratulations on Cli. When you applied for the Amex. Which CR did navy Federal pull from?
Just posted in approvals but thought I would share it here too. Approved for More Rewards 12,500 sl 12.99 apr. Been with Navy since Sept 2020. 1st Card when I joined was Amex 1500sl after 91/3 up to 4k. Was hoping for the big SUB on Flagship but the 200/2000 is a good sub for the Cash Rewards. Pulled TU don't know score as of right now. Just been direct depositing 300 every 2 weeks.
Hey I did my credit limit increase today. When going for auto loan should I ensure I put the same annual salary amount?
Also how long does it take to get approval with auto loan?
