Navy Federal question.

So last night I got approved for Navy fed checking account. Got an account with the hopes of getting a credit card with them. So I recently fixed my credit and have 1 AU that's 5 years old with on time payment but only 500$ limit. Experian right is at 687, Equifax is at 702 both FICO scores. TransUnion shows no score at all with no accounts, no bad accts just 3 hard inquiries. So I got approved for a Wells Fargo onekey cc with 3500$ standard limit. Should I wait for a score for TU to populate? Or will Navy fed pull a different bureaus if I have no score on TU?

Re: Navy Federal question.

Just guessing here but they might pull EQ, if they tried TU first and it came up empty.

With a thin file it might be a borderline approval ( even being NFCU ) so you might wait until your WF card reports and has a few months of history.

Yeah its thin with no account just the AU. I tried prequals and cap one wants to give me a secure credit card so does discover. So I think I might just wait. I also got added to a Apple card as a AU to see if that can generate a score for TU.

Re: Navy Federal question.

NFCU typically pulls your TU report for credit decisions, so I would suggest waiting until you have a TU score.

If your TU FICO is in the same neighborhood as the other two scores, you should be good to go in that respect. Navy is very conscious of your debt-to-income (DTI) so should you need to address that issue prior to applying would be advisable.

If just establishing a credit card relationship with Navy is your goal, when you are ready to apply, I would apply for the card you want and if denied, apply for a secured card with the same HP.

Navy's secured card can graduate after 6 months of responsible use, often times receiving a CLI prior to graduating to an unsecured CC.

Good luck and welcome to both the forum and NFCU. 👍🙂

Re: Navy Federal question.

I will wait. Do you guys think I should let all my direct deposit go to my NFCU or will just sending zelle payment suffice as building a relationship with them and maybe improving my odds.

Navy is truly a relationship CU for sure. Direct deposit, starting an easy start certificate and perhaps even a SSL will enhance your cause along with the passage of time.

I don't believe zelle payments to your account will matter although I don't know this to be a fact. It seems to me that a direct deposit would be the direction to go in establishing a positive relationship with Navy.

Re: Navy Federal question.

Thank you for the responses. I will wait and have maybe 50% of my paycheck deposit to NFCU and build a relationship. Hoping to come back to the forums in a few months to share my approvals 😁

Re: Navy Federal question.

@800wannabe420  I would agree they are a relationship CU, but would say any accounts beyond a share savings will help (doesn't necessarily have to be checking w/dd).  For me NFCU came in sort of in the middle of my credit limits when I opened a card with them ($7100, when highest and lowest were $20k and $1k).  Granted I have a thicker profile than the OP, but it's still got a BK7 on it and I don't have my checking with them.  I just have a certificate and that's it beyond my CR+ card.

Ditto @800wannabe420

The easy start cert can be as little $50 and pays a good rate.

If you don't have an installment loan, the ssl is an easy score boost.

The checking is no fee, no min, so no sweat.

Re: Navy Federal question.

A direct deposit will raise your internal score with NFCU.  The $ amount really doesn't matter.  See if your employer will allow split DD.  10% to NFCU the remainder to your current bank.
