3 new cards I got 11.30.14
I was going to app PenFed first because I think that is the biggest long shot. Citi Double Cash. And then NFCU because I don't really see that being a huge problem. I'm pretty nervous. I was going to wait till 11.30.15 But I actually have some unexpected medical bills in the pike, so either I wait and have higher utility or go now before my year mark. If I'm not mistaken all of these will pull my EQ report?
What do you guys think. Is Penfed too much of a long shot?
Your scores are good, but I think the AAoA and your oldest account only being 2 years old and less than a year of payment history on your three newer cards is what PenFed is looking at for your CC limit and PLOC denial. If you want to build a long term relationship with them, then use the card and try again in 6 months or a year for another CC product or the PLOC. You have some good cards and need to garden for a while to get that AAoA up and show responsible usage over time.
Are you just looking for large CL's or something strategic for spend? I guess I really can't tell from your posts? If you want one more card before gardening, have you tried the Cap1 pre-qualification for one of their Visa products - that is usally spot on for getting approved and the QS or Venture can have really nice SL's. Not guaranteed but I've see it a lot around here :-)
ya. i knew it was a long shot anywas. I'm super excited to be approved for membership and the cc. I mainly am just desparate to get out of the BoA business holding my finances and build relationships with other banks. I couldn't choose between penfed and nfcu, so I want them both. My strategy with my time out of the garden was to load up on good solid cards and plocs with good aprs. Things I can carry if need be. Diversify amonst all the reward cards. The apr on the promise was something like 9.99. The Citi DC was an opportunity to snag I couldn't let pass, apr was 15.99, not bad. My next step is to get in with NFCU, snag a flagship and a ploc, then I'm gardening all year again for mortgage prep.
You are doing great!
You are way ahead of the personal goals that you had when you started out. You just need to give it some time.
I do however think you have the right idea in loading up with a couple of more cards and perhaps a PLOC before 12/1/15. You want a full year quiet period before the mortgage app. The inquiries that will ding you now should fall off for scoring just in time to do the mortgage app next year.
Get moving! Do the apps!
Good luck!
Congrats on the PENFED approval though!
