About two weeks ago I asked for a cli online. I was told to call customer service. After speaking with cs they said I will hear from someone in 24-48 hrs. Found out I was denied. Ive had my cc for 3 months but seen on here many ppl have had luck with cli. Does it matter that im close to my max utilization? I Was thinking maybe thats why i was denied. Should I pay this down before asking for another cli? I have a cash rewards at 4k.

I'm not the resident NFCU expert, but I would say that if you have the card nearly maxed out that most likely is the reason your CLI was declined. That's not just specific to Navy, that's with most lenders. Especially if your account is only three months old... that most likely looks to to them like you're in trouble.
Get that utilization in check, and you'll likely be successful with a CLI request.
If the card was maxed out, your scores were probably hit at the time. Pay your revolvers down and try again.
What were your scores when you asked for the CLI?
Thanks for the info. I will get it down to less than 20% uti before asking for a cli.
both my NFCU cards were near maxed or over 60% when i got cli's
It has been only 3 months you say. has it been 3 statements? have you made payments for three months? What are you paying just the minimum? Usually it is ideal to try after 6 statements, and usually after a bi monthly credit soft pull they do. If you are maxed on that line it is unlikey NFCU will give you more credit. What else do you have with NFCU? Checking, direct deposit etc? For what its worth, I had my platinum card at 1K with them for over a year before they were willing to move it to 1.7K recently eventhough i have a car loan, personal loan. and navcheck with them. They do not just look at what YOU are doing with them, but also what is going on with your other creditors. If your max utilization is high across all your cards, they will be wary.
You may need to focus on what the root issue is... an start paying off/down some debt, rather than getting increases to mask utilization an ending up in more debt. Look at the BIG picture and not what you can get today but how to maintain/lower and put yourself in a better place a year or two from now. If your utilization is high why increase the limit to run it up an bury yourself, get it under control now and the increases will come, did you just start a new job?
curious...was it a hard pull? I've had the card for over a year and never applied for a CLI. Don't need it right now (10K line) but am going on a trip to Europe and might need a boost. NFCU has no FTF's and no fees on cash advances. I have a pin for the card. Utilization 0% but a big home equity debt. scores 706-717. Won't apply if HP. Planning on doing direct deposit with them starting in March and opening up a CD in April. Trip is in late April.
