Hello MyFico members, I have helped my sister get started on her credit journey recently. She is a full-time student with no income. She is piggybacking on my BCE, Freedom, and Ring cards currently. I have two questions.
At what point might her scores support applying for a prime card? (I want to skip secure cards if possible and get her the Amex BCE as her first card since it builds CL fast and has it's uses)
Can one even get credit with no income? Should one...maybe not tell the truth? Or stretch it a little? Or is there an option for blank/no income?
I welcome all suggestions and appreciate them. ![]()
You should always tell the truth when applying. Income is very important as these CC want to know how you intend to pay them. With no income, it will be hard to get approved.

As mentioned income would be needed for any application. How are you going to tell a lender you can pay back the amount owed.
I had my sister piggy back on just 1 of my cards and she was able to get in with Discover and Chase without issue after that.
Can someone get credit without income? Sure I would assume its possible but the chances are slim. To me a general rule would be needing at least 10k of annual income just to be safe for any application.
Does your sister get financial aide? Because I believe that counts as income?
Both fortunately and unfortunately, she does not have aid. She got a scholarship for all but books/supplies...of which our parents pay for. As long as she lives with them she will not qualify for financial aid. Thank you for your help.
Also, is she getting a monthly allowance from anywhere? Say from parent, trust fund etc? That can qualify as income...

Lol we are by no means wealthy enough to have trust funds so unfortunately, no. She gets gas money and maybe a little for food but mostly eats at home.

Hey.. You never know as this is a public forum. But from what you are saying, it will be a stretch for the BCE.
Amex wants your income, not family income from what I remember.. They are one of the stricker lenders and if they were ever to ask for proof from her and she wasn't able to prove it, then obviously her account would get cancelled and in the future she we be most likely asked in any futher application.. Just my take on it.

You guys have been wonderful, so I guess we'll have to wait for her to get a part-time job before applying. In the mean time, she'll gain AAOA off of my cards...which is good I suppose. When this does happen (if it ever does lol), should I take her off of my BCE before apping or is it fine if she stays on?
It is deffinetly fine if she stay on when she apps in the future and has some kind of employment
