Hi all,
I have recently received acceptance from American Express Blue Card Everyday and the card is on its way.
I have two other offers I am considering. Citi Simplicity Mastercard, which offered 21 months no interest and Discover IT which offers 0 interest for 12 months. I'm thinking about applying for both.
Will appying for all 3 cards hit my score? Is it better to app all three now, or wait. My offers from Citi have gone up in length of time over the last few months, but this latest offer seems pretty good!
TYIA.
Discover IT, double cash back in your first year, 5% categories, a nice balance transfer grace period on your first transfer. It's a hard card to beat for new card holders.
Citi Simplicity, good for one thing... BT, if you are making a large purchase you can't go wrong with this card.
I have both Discover and Simplicity ... go for Discover. I like that with Discover you can use the points directly at Amazon.com.
Simplicity is a good card but you can't PC to another card. If you want rewards, apply for the Double Cash.
As others have said, it depends on your need for a card. If the BCE is your only card and you're looking for a card to USE, then Discover is the better choice for now with the double cash back deal plus very useful (to me) revolving categories, at least this quarter and next (transportation and restaurants). You brought up the BT on both cards so if that is your main purpose for the card, then Simplicity sounds like the better choice now.
The other thing to find out is which CR each of them are likely to pull for you. You can google for the credit pulls database to see what's been the case for your state. For me in CA I've had Amex pull EX and Discover and Citi both pull EQ. Sometimes Citi double pulls, don't recall hearing Discover double pull. My point being you asked if three new accounts will hurt. If they're on different reports, they will impact each less. The only time having them spread out across reports might 'count' as much as having them on one report would be in the course of a mortgage where they'll pull all three.
The offer I received in the mail from Discover doesn't say anything about cash back. It's a 0% for 12 months, with at BT for 3 %, then 12.99 to 15.99 after that. I hesitated due to no other perks. Thought about appying just to have in my pocket. I am considering the Citibank to do a BT. But not sure if they will approve me for enough for it to be of benifit. I have a WF card that I want to get rid of. The interest is ridiculous. And they don't budge!
OOPS! Helps if you read the entire offier. It DOES have cash back, including 5% and double cash back at end of first year. Gees. I need to slow down!
I love my Discover Card!!!
@ OP
I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but I would go for the Discover if I were you. It's a great card!
