They are inquiry and new account sensitive, I apped for unsecured CC, to many inquiries and new accounts. After denial within two weeks was offered preapproved personal loan. I said yes, figuring helps with FICO scores and a chance to prove I can handle credit. After first year of paying I may reapp for credit card. Until then, the secured Visa is my lowest rate card, tad over 7%, good if I need to carry a balance for a few months.
Their secured card is one of the best on the market IMO. You just can't beat that extremely low apr on a secured card!
University Federal Credit Union has a great rate card that can go as low as 5.9% APR for excellent credit. Would love to hear from myfico members who belong to University Federal Credit Union and are willing to share their experiences!

If this is the one I'm thinking of, it's the CU associated with the Texas Longhorns.
i apped to join last year and was pended for verification. They wanted me to come into a branch.
I live about an hour and half away from the nearest so I didn't bother.

It is open as long as you donate $20 to the Texas Longhorns organization, I checked with them. No need to be a resident of Texas.
It originally was for university employees and their families, but has been expanded to include anyone who donates the $20.
Little bit late to the party but I have run across an "interesting option" that I am in the process of joining.
USSFCU (United States Senate Federal Credit Union)
Reasons to join: The main thing that attracted me to this CU is the auto loans. If you can handle doing direct deposit (no minimum) the rates start at 0.99% on 48 months for new AND used up to $150,000 (Tesla anyone?) If you don't do DD, but do autopay which I have been told can be from any bank account rate starts at 1.24%. They also appear liberal regarding credit score transparancy and what it takes to get a rate. So far waiting on gets the lowest rate on auto loan. Will be using them to get the preapp at 0.99% then having lightstream beat the rate for 0.89%. Fingers crossed
How to Join: You can join through the US Capitol Historical Society, keep in mind it isn't an instant process you have to send an email to get the process started, but the Rep I have been emailing seems to be knowledgeable to the process.
Other good products?: No fee checking, no balance transfer fee CC starting at 9.25%.

Thank you very much for posting about this CU. I have considered them and United Nations Federal CU myself.😉
Thanks for the reccomendation Baller, looks like they have really great Personal Loans if you stomach the Variable Rate I will post an update to the Auto Loan Approval if I can get a good rate!
The my consumers credit union does look appealing. The only thing I don't like is the CC interest rates they list on their site are variable, and are the lowest. It does not list the full range. And since you only need to spend 1k/mo to get the highest APY, I guess the interest really wouldnt matter. The debit swipes would be easy to circumvent. Just use amex serve and do $0.01 a day for however many days or just leave it on there (guess theres always a chance that wouldn't qualify). Can anyone chime in here on what their experience was like? What is their increase process like? If not, I will call in and ask.
I do like this one small town bank. It has started to acquire various Citizens Bank branches. It is not a credit union but acts like one. It has 5.01% APY on up to 5k. Each person can have two checking accounts. Only requirements are 10 debit swipes a month per account (easy). They also offer only one visa. 7.5% variable 0 bt fee, 3% CA fee. Weird point structure, you dont start earning cash back on the Visa cc until you have spent 3k, it goes from .25 to .5 then .75 first. With the high APY I could care less about its CC rewards.
The other odd duck is the 5.01% APY high yield checking accounts do not post as a monthly cash dividend. Instead they are points that are grouped into an account with the Visa. So naturally you'd probably want to just open two checking accounts and each month roll over all the rewards into the 2nd checking account. Seems to be an easy 260-520 per year. In the few convos I have had with them by email they have said they are going to try to get the Visa APR Fixed. You have to apply for all this in branch only. In central Illinois.
Regarding LMCU, I was not aware they were not so lenient. I remember they had a 6% promo for a while. But I always thought in the back of my mind one day I'd get their 3% 15k checking and hopefully wait a while and get approved for the 6.5% visa.
