Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

I hate that NASA went rogue on my fellow myfico comrades. I have to say the space shuttle card does look cool though. Since their rewards update, I've been using mine more lately. I like the monthly rewards payout verses waiting a year for them.

Avg Joe, what happened with NASA? Why didn't it work out? If you also have a NASA horror story, I would like to hear it.  I'm still waiting to hear from CreditLuv. This is the right thread for it.  Thanks buddy!

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

Here's my list of credit unions:

1. AllSouth FCU: This is a local credit union with decent rates on loans with restricted membership. Their credit cards are handled through Elan Financial (US Bank). No cc with them, but I have checking, savings, CD's, and loans with them. They do require POI.

2. SCSCU: SCSCU is an awesome CU. If you live or work in certain parts of SC you should join. This credit union is a conservative version of Navy Federal. They have excellent customer service and their rates are between PENFED and NFCU. They are bankruptcy and rebuilding friendly. SCSCU is very member focused and you get very quick responces on loan decisions. Their secured card doesn't graduate unless you call in to request an account review. They are very conservative in  credit limits, but sometimes that's a good thing. This CU is on the shared branch network along with SDFCU. I have checking, savings, CD's, a Visa at 10.9%, a CLOC, and pif loans. They do require POI if you don't have direct deposit. In some ways, SCSCU is better than NFCU and the other bigger CU's.

3. SDFCU: This is an excellent credit union for rebuilding. They have excellent loan rates, but their savings rates are the lowest for all credit unions. Their secured loans and secured Visa don't require a HP and they are the lowest rates I've ever seen. I have a savings account and a Visa at 9.24% with them. This is one of my lowest rates. They do require POI and sometimes require recon work to get approvals. I had to recon my Visa app with them and it took a week to get it approved. SDFCU also has the best ACH system I've ever seen. It's a great way to move money around electroniclly without having to write a check. Overall I'm pleased with the CU.

4. NFCU: Excellent CU. They are very liberal in issuing credit lines and very responsive to requests. They are very rebuilding friendly. I have checking/savings, CD's, CLOC, and a Visa at 12.9% with them. I'm only using them for savings and Visa right now.

5. PENFED. Excellent CU for rebuilding. I like their customter service. I have a savings and two credit cards with them, 10.24% and 14.99%. I like have you get same credit credit on mobile app deposits.

Remember credit unions are better than banks IMO. They can differ slightly in how they cater to their members. Some of the best CU's out there are some of the smallest, because they want to the best not the biggest.

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

@GWM, Not much of a story i suppose. Its just as you know , following leads on MF can lead to success or failure, and like many after reading all the good things about Nasa and their high limits etc, i decided to try to apply.

It turned out to be the slowest process in the world, send in docs , cant read, gotta send again, days upon days to get proper responses back. I just got tired of how long it was taking and cancelled my app. I have no problem doing things proper and even if it takes time i can be pacient because sometime its warranted but there was just something off on how they work.

In the end im happy i didnt get in as now i know they can be sensitive if you have other creditors and seeing the clding some of their clients for bs reasons makes me glad. This is why i try to control the "Fico Fever" lolSmiley Happy when it comes to hot ccs or ccc'sSmiley Happy

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

It's a fact Jack. The 5 months I've been on the forum in preparation to my mortgage refi, I have acquired 2 additional cc and doubled my cl to 130k. Not counting any Ploc or Cloc. Previous to that my last cc was opened in 06 😳

Apple FCU - used to be very hard to get into unless you lived or worked in Northern Virginia but now you can pay $20 to join NVADAC and become member.  No credit product with them as my membership was just approved today but they do offer a Platinum CC that has a rate as low as 5.99%.  No HP required to join but do check ChexSystems

Wow glad I found this thread Smiley Happy Will verify that there are no HP for joining and will apply for a card next year after gardening.
