I contacted RBFCU and they confirmed the ONLY way for a non Texas resident to join is if an immediate family member is already a member. The Texas PTA will no longer make you eligible.

Sorry to hear that .  Glad I got in when I did .  RBFCU has been very good to me.

You're welcomed. It was a super easy and fast process. Once you get membership docs in mail, you can set up online access.

I had them email me a copy of the app, which I filled out and scanned along with a copy of my DL, birth cert, and car reg (for proof of address). Emailed it over this am, and called just now to see if they'd received it. The (much nicer) rep I spoke with couldn't find it, so she had me email it directly to her, verified she received it, and got it over to the correct dept. So now we wait Smiley Happy

Received a call from Unify this morning about my app. She said everything looked good, and didn't mention anything about unfreezing EX. Told me I needed to mail them a check with the opening deposit before they could proceed, so got that in the mail this afternoon. Overall, fairly painless and except for the first person I spoke with, everyone else has been very friendly and helpful.

On a side note, the app for UNFCU went in the mail today, too Smiley Happy

Whoa whoa I didn't say a better alternative than NFCU. They are an additional option for rebuilders! They may approve lower scores than NFCU. Navy Fed usually start unsecured approvals around 580/590. But as generous as NFCU is to rebuilders, it's pretty hard to beat them!

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

No you don't need a referral to either Unify or NFCU. On the first page of this thread I posted the link to how to join NFCU. Unify you just fill out the app and they pay your donation to Friends of Hobbs for membership.

I joined back in May of this year. I have a secured loan through them and use the savings account often. Other than that I've done nothing special.

Here's a portion of what the email looks like.

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

Hello,

I am a member of Wescome CU.   Membership requirement is living, working, going to school, or being a church member in Southern California (LA, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino county).   I have free checking with them, as well as a mandated saving account (min balance of $1 for your share), and a Visa card.   Their Visa isn't great.   The lowest APR is 9.25% (I'm currently at 12.25%).   The rewards are very lackluster.   However, I do manage to very nice fixed rate low APR offers for BT with no BT fees.   They are conservative, so my CL is still low ($2500) and I've never received a CLI.

I finally decided to apply for a CLI.   Unfortunately, it's an HP on EX, so I'll have to turn in my spade soon.   I requested a review of my APR along with it.  I will hopefully hear back tomorrow.   I had to do my CLI application over the phone and was asked income and 2 yrs of housing information.   Since the bank seems very conservative, I'm not expecting a huge CLI.   I asked to go to $20K but expressed that I'd accept a counteroffer.   We'll see.
