@Anonymous wrote:Hi!! Hoping that one of the credit union gurus can answer this question. I am a member of Alliant. Are they a member the shared branch network/coop? Sorry if this has been answered, but I tried to do a search and didn't find anything.
Yes they are. I have never stepped foot into an Alliant branch even though we have one in my city. I do all my atm deposits at a share branch. Just check deposit taking atms in link below:

Thanks Baller!!! I figured you would know the answer. I am in another state. So, if I understand the way shared branching works, I can actually go into a branch that is part of the shared branching and withdraw and deposit with them like I would at an Alliant branch, assuming I don't wish to use the ATM. The chance of me doing this is pretty slim. But, I just wanted to make sure I understand.
@Anonymous wrote:Also I have an update to the check hold policy at least for me..... I deposited a $10 check I wrote to myself and they put a hold on it until November 8th -_- chat agent was unable to confirm if this is always the case.
For Unify? WOW! Surely that's just for new customers.

Yes that is exactly how it works. 😉

Awesome, Thanks Baller! You know, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be a member of Alliant right now!! Thanks for all the info you provide. It's priceless.
Awww thank you ItsPossible! I am so glad you joined! They make banking extremely easy for me and I can make a lil money on interest at the same time! One of my fav CUs!.😆
ETA: I am so excited about the new mobile app coming out next month!
Is there a list of CU's that aren't no longer steller.... I know of a few locally that went from great to meh.. and a few that hiked their fee structure to be just as greedy and shady as a major bank.... (instead of aprs , they nickle and dime you with service fees)
Know theres a few of these "Subprime CU's" out there....

I know MIT is closing folks checking accounts who have CC with them for "inactivity"... bit of a misnomer since depositing and paying bill is not considered activity...
and feeing folks ever since they opened up membership to students, plus their CSR's dont know what the other hand is doing... Family member had some billing issues with them and it took months to straighten them out... plus they weren't sending his statements on time... I have an account thats still open but they have not offered to work with me to establish credit and I asked (woudlnt even offer me secured with no score) while another CU did with a lot less fees, and a lot better CS...
Also the lovely Metro CU is about as ghetto as they get... they are fee happy.... Even the local banks offer much better deals then them, if you add in the fees...
Had much better CSR and in-branch service with Hanscom Federal CU https://hfcu.org/
Got me a CC, PLOC, and a bit later on a SSL .... And got the interest rate on the PLOC down to their CC best rate too (which i love for a no-frills CC)
(8.49 on both PLOC and CC.. )

Forgot to mention RTN credit union (Ex. Raytheon Employees CU)..... Haven't opened an account with them, but have used a few of their branches for Branch Sharing (Co/Op) Really pleasant to deal with but not sure about their products... Someone told me they are a bit old-school and stuffy but haven't had any problems with them
One thing about CUs.. Id be very hesitant to join a CU that does not participate in CO/OP's Branch Sharing network... Theres a local CU that actually was very snippy when i came in and asked about it... Their ATM was a member of their ATM network but did NOT allow deposits ....and I came in, waited and politely asked and basically i was given a lot of atitude not just a sorry we dont participate.. this was more like I should have known and a "of course not" .. You can use the atm outside... But it didnt accept deposits so i was SOL....I would never do buisness with these folks even if i was eligible..
I have done some buisness with USAlliance (again branch sharing and ATMs)... THey seem nice, actually offered a membership but I didnt need it at the time... Also seem to have some good products... https://www.usalliance.org/
They also bailed me out since the local DMV wanted cash(!) for a "new" vehicle excise tax and registration.. (not even CC with a fee at the time)
ATM was out of order and went in and took care of it.. Not sure how it went through but it wasnt through branch sharing.... no visible surcharge to me or the host bank.
(**bleep**.. I didnt realize the Throwback Visa was their product.... didnt reconize the logo)... Perhaps i might look into this at a later date..

Think i saw it mentioned here but google took me to...

They are so quick with deposits and ACH transfers. They are now my main bank. They have won me over in the past month with their banking and nice interest rates. I too am excited about the new app that's coming. The app as it is right now is the only thing I find a little "meh" about them.
