Had a "funny" experience with Alliant. I'd gotten all my stuff setup with them, had my online access, transferred my money, etc. So today, I get two letters in the mail from them:

1) Dated 10/26 with my welcome packet, member #, etc.

2) Dated 10/25 saying they wouldn't open accounts based on information on file with ChexSystems. I know I have no negatives, and the letter listed the following:

  1. EQ Credit score: 0 (which is funny since I de-iced it for them)
  2. CHEX INQUIRIES MAY HAVE ADVERSELY IMPACTED THE SCORE
  3. MULTIPLE RECENT DEBIT INQUIRIES
  4. INSUFFICIENT DEBIT HISTORY (Huh? I've had bank accounts for 20 years at least)
  5. RECENT DEBIT INQUIRY ACTIVITY
  6. PREVIOUS DEBIT INQUIRY ACTIVITY

EMPHASIS (YELLING) IS THEIRS Smiley Happy Their probably are a lot of INQs on Chex since a bank that shall not be named did like 5 INQs to open an account for me :\

The accounts are still open, so I'm not entirely sure what their glitch is LOL.

Wow that is weird. But, since your welcome packet was dated after the Chexsystems letter and your accounts are still open, it's obvious it's a glitch! I've never heard of that before.

It sounds like their system automatically kicked out the letter on the Chex hit before a person had a chance to override and approve you.  I would let them know this happened so they can fix the glitch

I think I figured out what happened. I remembered I *did* have a glitch de-icing EQ. When I applied online, I was initially declined. I then had to call them and do the app over the phone, email them some proof of identity, and then I was all set. That's what the decline letter probably was for Smiley Happy

Hello,

I am a member of Wescome CU.   Membership requirement is living, working, going to school, or being a church member in Southern California (LA, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino county).   I have free checking with them, as well as a mandated saving account (min balance of $1 for your share), and a Visa card.   Their Visa isn't great.   The lowest APR is 9.25% (I'm currently at 12.25%).   The rewards are very lackluster.   However, I do manage to very nice fixed rate low APR offers for BT with no BT fees.   They are conservative, so my CL is still low ($2500) and I've never received a CLI.

I finally decided to apply for a CLI.   Unfortunately, it's an HP on EX, so I'll have to turn in my spade soon.   I requested a review of my APR along with it.  I will hopefully hear back tomorrow.   I had to do my CLI application over the phone and was asked income and 2 yrs of housing information.   Since the bank seems very conservative, I'm not expecting a huge CLI.   I asked to go to $20K but expressed that I'd accept a counteroffer.   We'll see.

Ugh.   After all of the jumping through hoops, I finally got word that not only was my CLI request denied, but they also declined to provide me with any counteroffer.   So the CL is stuck at $2500.  They did lower my APR...not that I'd want to hold a balance on that tiny CL.   Their claim was that my verifiable income put me at a 66% DTI ratio.   Apparently, my CU knows better than every other creditor I have.   I fired off an email to the Wescom CEO, so we'll see if that gets me a recon.  I told them that this was the last straw before I take all my business elsewhere.

Meanwhile, I'm going to see if I can get into NFCU.   I will have to use the NLUS-SD route, so let's hope I have luck there.

SunriseEarth definitely join NFCU. They will give you the limits you deserve. These smaller CUs can be a royal pain in the rear! 😡

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

I just wanted to share my experience with Alliant. Decided to try and join in early July of this year and my membership application was denied due to a negative chexsystems account showing on my report. So decided to do some digging around and eventually was able to get the negative item removed from my chexsystems report. I have learned so much this year alone about my credit and definitely wasn't going to let that get in my way. So with that removed tried another app over the phone and was approved on the spot for both checking and savings account. Very pleased as I have heard some very good reports about Alliant. They will replace my failed experiments with both Unify(Western)Credit and Nasa. Kicking them straight to the curb! I think I will hold of on apping for any credit cards with them as I have heard they are both inquiry and account sensitive. I may grab the shared secured loan and build with a savings and checking as I have also heard they have great perks on their accounts.

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

Know that I was thinking about I have a couple of questions regarding Alliant for those who have appied from them. I have been reading somewhere that if you opened a checking account with OD protection it WILL be a HP is this accurate? And if so do these use the same HP for other products you apply for?

Re: Official Credit Unions Guide

I'm not sure about OD protection being a hp since I didn't get it. But, I believe an hp is good for other products for either 30 or 60 days. Others will have to chime in since I haven't personally apped any products yet.

Hi bruisedcredit,

The only overdraft protection that Alliant offers is a fee-based transfer from your savings to your checking to cover overdrafts (see below). It's bascially the same offer that many banks do to move money from your own savings to your checking, using your own money that you already have in the account.

They don't offer CLOC or PLOC products, unfortunately. Hope this helps.

Overdraft Protection

Increase your peace of mind by opting in to free Alliant Overdraft Protection. We’ll automatically transfer money from your Alliant Savings or Alliant Supplemental Savings Account to avoid overdrafts from check or debit card purchases. Enrolling is free, and you only pay a small $3 fee per day that it’s used. This is a great option for members who already have back-up funds in a savings account.
