Denied membership 4 weeks after applicaiton submitted. No letter, email or phone call of any kind why membership was denied. Very unprofessional in my opinion.
I tried joining them as well. Was declined for them not being able to identify me. It was a wasted hard pull. I tried to write and call but was pretty much shut down and told to come into a branch. They are off my list. I did get into Apple FCU at the same time (soft TU pull) and it seems they have better member services reps and better products anyway.

I applied to a couple CUs recently because I wanted a free EQ 08 score so I don't have to rely on CCT trials. I had mixed results.
Andrews FCU was fairly easy to join. I did the whole app process online and it took a week. I already had a membership with American Consumer Council so that qualified me. That was $15 for a lifetime membership a few months ago. They did not hard pull my credit. Just a share savings account for now. I'm considering their CD specials but no credit products now since I'm gardening.
Langley FCU didn't go so well. I chose the VersaBility $5 donation to join and off the app went. A couple days later I got a follow up email to call in for verification. I had thawed my EQ report when I submitted online app but they asked me to lower the freeze again while on the phone. They then hard pulled my EQ. Next came the questions about my credit history to verify my identity and thats when it all fell apart. While looking right at my report on CK, I somehow went through all 3 rounds of questions answering incorrectly. They said I was locked out for 30 days or I could come into a branch. I may try again later this year but I bowed out for now figuring one wasted hard pull was enough.
So at least I will be getting the free EQ score from Andrews quarterly. The other 8 months I'll have to cough up a buck.

I had similar experience. They are out of control.

Andrews had a really annoying credit card application, which asked a lot more questions than the normal credit application. I never even bothered filling out, it was too much of a pain.
Langley on the other hand has been a pleasure to deal with.

I also had a similar experience w/Langley. I failed the fraud questions (asked about 20+ year old student loan lenders). I subsequently asked for them to remove the hard pull & we'd let bygones be bygones.
They said no can do -- I gave them permission for HP. I said, I gave permission to exchange HP for consideration for membership/credit, and I was not in fact receiving the consideration I gave permission for. They said, But you were denied. I said, I was denied not because the content of James_A's EQ reports was unsatisfactory to Langley, but because Langley couldn't verify to its satisfaction it was dealing with James_A. Is that not correct? Why, Yes, that is correct. Then if Langley can not verify to its satisfaction that the fellow who requested an account & is presently on the phone is James_A, then how can Langley on the other hand claim the individual who gave permission for the HP is James_A? Langley can not have it both ways.
This conversation got repeated two more times with two other persons. My situation has been "escalated" to a manager for review. I'm waiting for a call back. I let them know, in no uncertain terms, that: 1) they can admit whomever they want -- I've no qualms with being denied because I couldn't pass their test; in fact, Bravo, for being so rigorous; 2) put me back to "zero," ie, remove the HP, and I'll go away quietly, no hard feelings; 3) Don't remove the HP & I'll make trouble; I have the time and temperament.
Waiting.
