I was perusing Expedia daydreaming about a vacation I desperately need and also checked my Exp to see that it had gone up by a few points and I'm down to 7 inquiries in 24 mos with only two in 12 months...
I was pre approved for 7,000. I almost hit accept, and then very quickly thought about my dreams of getting a Double Cash card or any Citi card at all (LOVE THE WAY THE NEW STRATA looks which I think replaces the Rewards+)and then clicked out of the box, then I got to thinking again.. if I did go for the card, I would go for the 99 AF version because of the bonus right now.
Its 600 after 3k spend in three months. and MBFS let's me pay my car payment which I then PIF (and is about 1000 a mo) with NO FEES, so I get 1.5 to 2% cashback lowering my APR on the Auto Loan to a degree.
Isn't it funny how banks update different balances at different CRAs at different times? Like I would be exactly at 9% util right now, even 10% if CapOne and Bread were accurately reporting my Credit Lines and Balances.. they haven't updated them for two months.. and in some cases its not even to their benefit. Same with Synchrony. My Walgreens card has been paid off for over two months, and they are reporting a balance on Experian, but not TU or EQ.
my 08 FICO on Exp which is who I think WF pulls for the One Key card is 736 as of this am. 12% util. I'm going to wait a couple more days to see if they report the extra payments from my last statements from forever ago because the credit score simulator bumps me up like 60 points if I hit 9% util although I know that is the best util to have, I HIGHLY DOUBT I will gain 60 extra points.
other data points for 7k pre approval on One Key from WF: 3 new accounts in six months - student loans 60k which Ive been paying for years now no defaults - halfway paid down car loan - aaoa 7 years, oldest account 18 years.
7k would be an okay limit, and I could easily hit that spend and pif, they offered the 29.24% rate OUCH.
I'm addicted to testing prequals.
Earlier in July, I tested the waters with One Key. $23K SL.i just don't have a need for the card. When I tested the prequal a couple weeks later, it came back with 10K. LOL Nothing had changed on my reports. Still a NO from me.
That’s some solid self-control holding back on the pre-approval; especially with a $7k limit on the table. I can see why the AF version would be tempting for the bonus; but at 29.24% APR, it’s definitely one to PIF every time. Interesting points on how different banks report balances at different times; that timing can make a big difference when you’re trying to fine-tune utilization. With your profile and existing limits, you’re in a strong position to pick and choose the offers that really align with your goals.
@youngandcreditwrthy Just a heads up cause I've had like 8 MBFS leases, for CC they use REPAY, which I just verified charges 4% on credit card fees.. they even charge to use a debit card for payment, although it's 1%, I would advise against it unless you have no other choice.
Ive been able to use the repay thingy with zero fees when paying on a certain date of the month within my grace period. It must be a glitch and if it doesnt work this month, i'll know your a snitch in the credit forums. so dont try that game sugar.
2% CB on a 1000 car payment per annum adds up to $240 back. muahhahaha my interest rate sucks on that loan though. 6.99 was the lowest they were offering at the time for anything over 36 months. I do keep getting offers to refi for 4-5.5% but then want to refi it to a 60-72 mo loan. I want the new CLE, but I think I'm going to hold off.
