I'm different I guess. I don't mind sending pay stubs or bank statements but I refuse to give tax info. I get that they want to verify my income but tax docs are just too much for me-too much info, could get in the wrong hands. But I would be willing to accept the denial for not complying too. First I would call and talk to someone but if they didn't agree to just use it paystubs and bank direct deposit proof then I would kindly withdrawal the application.

While I tend to agree with your lack of desire to provide tax documents like what Amex requests, there are valid reasons why they do so.  In today's digital world, pay stubs and bank statements are easy to forge, edit or otherwise alter to allow those producing them to provide 'innacurate' information.

This. Heck every one at my company from me to the janitors w2 and pay stubs are typed up by my company accountant, he could put what ever he wants on there for any of us.  Even worse when I refinanced my mortgage they asked me to supply them tax returns (no surprise there) but they also had me fill out a 4056T to get my return from the IRS and make sure tthey were identical. Apprently people were changing info on tax returns too. That was something I didnt have to do when I obtained the mortgage to begin with in 2014. Now the one place I will never give a return to is a car dealer, I just dont trust them with that kind of info. It lists far to many important account numbers and such. But I have no problem submitting directly to a creditor.

Re: POI....????

Iv never understood why people will apply for something only to have to submit to poi to get approved and they don't want to follow through. There's always a chance any bank can ask for it. It's pretty obvious when people don't want to follow through or hide something that they inflated there income on there application. Unless it's like a synchrony blue envelope of doom.. then that's the exception I guess.

I remember when refinancing my mortgage last year, they wanted 2 years of W-2's and wanted to get my taxes from the IRS. Seemed a little weird to me to ask for both when the tax return from the IRS would show it anyways.

Re: POI....????

@thummel.... even a bank only asks for pay stubs for a loan. A mortgage is diff. They usually want tax docs and I would submit them for a 200k mortgage... for a 5k cc, no thanks. Most ccs don't ask for this stuff, so when you apply you assume you won't have to and if they ask, then the rules are different and we all have our own opinion on to what we do at that point. I'm not saying it's wrong when people do submit them, or that it's wrong when you don't. It's up to each individual person. It's not for me to judge what you or anyone else thinks is right. For me, it's just not worth it for a cc. Maybe a high limit, maybe 30-40k or higher card I would consider it..... but not for a regular limit card when there are 50 other cards I can get who don't require that.

One more thing-it isn't about not being honest either. I put what I make. I have never lied or embellished the truth on an application for creidt.

Also... anyone with a computer could forget tax docs as easily as a pay stub so to me that is a weak argument. If you are going to break the law and forge docs for a bank it makes no difference to me if it is a pay stub or a tax doc. Both are easy enough to forge.

Never had a cc company ask for POI...Now one is requesting paystubs and w2.......Im good with paystub, it direct deposit..but I believe a redacted W2 will have to be sent....state id #..fed# control# will be blacked out......I believe they ought to do some leg work

Dont redact anything on the W2 or they will reject it...(it will be considered void and a tampered document)

Btw whose asking for the POI if your comfortable telling us?
