Upon reading the "The Best 2% Card Showdown" I thought maybe I might have a chance at the PPMC. I logged into PayPal and clicked on a link "Earn 2% cash back* on every purchase, You've been selected to apply for the PayPal Cashback Mastercard® based on your PayPal history". I learned it's more marketing than preapproval as my app was immediately declined.
I am waiting for their email/letter for the reasons behind their decline, but I already have a pretty good idea of what it's going to say. I have a new, rather thin credit profile, after my Ch7(filed 12/18, disch 3/19) which included SyncB, so I shouldn't really be surprised. Otherwise, I have 3 monthis with a secured nRewards and Cap1 Platinum, and 4 months with a Self loan.
I guess I better test more of the Prequal links and/or seek out other Secured CC options. This is my first decline, ouch, but I was bored and feeling a bit hopeful. I hope not to regret any new CCs that I app for should I get approved. I was holding out for a 2nd NFCU card but with recent results I know I have to wait a few more months.
Any suggestions for me given I have a new, thin file? I like BOA, and am open for their Secured card, and am going to contact BBVA, I don't mind th $40AF if it gets my foot in the door. In the 2% Card Showdown, I also learned FNBO, has a 2% Card, and I see they have a Secured card option as well.
Thanks much!

@EverForward, Sorry for your denial
..
Have you thought about the Discover Secure card?
It does have perks, and it does un-secure.
I just read where someone got their's un-secured and a CLI
They now have a $2000 limit.
Just throwing out a suggestion.

With BofA, it helps to have a banking relationship to get approved with a thin file. I was approved for an unsecured Cash Rewards before I had a FICO score. I am not certain if they are BK friendly, however.

Discover is also a great card which will have great rewards both while secured and after it graduates, but beware of the possibility of a 4506-T request. They especially seem to be requesting one from people applying for either a second card or a secured card.
@CreditAggie, Excellent point! .. I always forget about that stupid 4506-T![]()
I started with Discover in 1999 and have two cards .. so far I have not been hit with one.
@M_Smart007 Thanks! I thought about Discover, last time I tried their prequal link they declined due to my 2 recent CC, but I may have a better chance at that again now.
@Rebuild2019 Thanks, it's like walking on glass sometimes it seems.
@CreditAggie Thank you, BOA is actually on my list as well. I am thinking I'd need to open an checking/savings with them and let it sit for awhile. I heard about that dreaded 4506-T form, guess it that's what it takes I'll consider them again.
This afternoon, I tried calling my primary FI, 1st Bank, only certain branches offer secured cards, makes me worried, then I learned they quit offering them. I also called a nearby BBVA branch, and spoke with a real person, amazingly refreshing after all the voicemail. She said she could help me with a $500 secured card, and she'd be there to help me when it came time to graduate, in about 12 months, and/or with any additional banking needs. I thought they also had a secured business card but she said no, they do offer business LOC, which I may consider later.
Thanks everyone for the great tips and support!
I just ran through the Discover preapproval link. Preapproved for Secured card. So I fully apped for $500 Discover IT Secured card and it was approved.
This rounds me up to 3 revolver cards, yeah!
Once the dust settles and shock wears off, I think I'll still app for the $500 Secured card at BBVA. I'm getting tired of this thin profile.
So far, just one HP on EX for Discover, no HP that I've seen yet for PPMC.
