Hi guys,
I've decided to apply at NFCU based on my grandfather's service.
I was waiting for my latest reporting with uti lowered to 14% to hit TransUnion to boost my score, as I understand that's where they mostly pull from.
My experian is 749. TU is still showing a c/o account that fell off the other two, and even with the lowered uti, it's only at 679.
Only derog is that c/o which I'm not sure why it's still showing up there.
Is it worth holding off, contacting TU as the account is over 7 y/o and fell off the others, or is it not so big of a deal?
Currently only have 1 card with a $500 limit. Looking to build a relationship with NFCU; checking, DD, CC, pledge loan, etc.
Thank you for any advice 🙏
I'm also waiting until the 13th of next month after my current CC, Discover, pulls my monthly credit, to apply for a CLI.
Would it be worth waiting until after that as well to apply?
Just trying to get a good sense for my best order of operations.
Appreciate you all 🙏
I joined NFCU in August 2022...1 year 8 months after my BK 13 DC. Obviously, it was still reporting. Granted, my utilization was 0%. I was approved right away for membership and was approved for the NFCU Amex the same day. NFCU is awesome, and seems very understanding of past issues, as long as you did not include NFCU in BK.
That being said, you should definitely follow up on that CO which should have dropped.
Called TU and disputed the C/O, it was removed before we got off the phone!
Thank you for that. And awesome how cool NFCU is!

There's no reason for you to wait to apply for your membership.
But wait to apply for a credit product, until you've gotten the derogatory item taken off.

Nice that you got that taken care of so smoothly. I guess it's all systems go now
NFCU is great, initially they will most likely only want to give you a Nrewards secured card but as you do build those other products with them like checking they will become much more open very fast. Depending on your goals, it may even be worth waiting a couple months and establishing that relationship with them before applying for a card, just don't try and get their flagship right away. You'll learn here that their pre qual system is untrustworthy at best but I believe seeing the changes within your prequals can be a good guage of how they feel about you.
