Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

Lol shouldn't be that exciting, but it is. Not that I plan to apply for either, but the interesting data point here is that prior to yesterday, I was only prequalifying for the Slate with 0 for 15 and then 22.99% after that. I just checked the prequal site again for giggles and both the Slate *and* the CSP are showing up. What's more, the Slate is now offering me 17.99% after the 0% intro period. I did just open up a Chase checking account yesterday for the $300 bonus. Don't know if maybe that had anything to do with it. The banker helping me did mention I was prequalified for a card with 15 months at 0% (obviously talking about the Slate) and offered it to me of course, but I politely declined. Garden strong! Lol. Smiley Happy Anyway fellow MyFICOers, this being said, I DO want to apply for the Southwest Visa Premier by the end of the month, so do you guys think the fact that I'm prequalified for CSP/Slate might be a good indicator of being approved for the SW card?

Stats at the moment:
$20k income
Scores: 690 EX, 684 EQ, 706 TU
Inquiries: 9 EX, 5 EQ, 7 TU; less than 3 in the last 6 months per bureau
UTIL: 26%, hoping to bring it down to about 21-22% here in the next few weeks prior to my app.
Baddies: ONE 60day late from an installment loan that is nearly 3 years old showing on EX and EQ. TU is clean.
3 new accounts in the last 6 months.
Total credit: $18.3k across 6 cards
Cap One Venture: $10k
WF Platinum: $3.5k
Barclays Rewards: $2k
Cap One QS: $1.3k
Chase Freedom: $1.2k
Dillard's Store card: $300

Any educated guesses? Smiley Happy Thanks in advance!

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

I think that if you are prequalified for CSP you most definitely would qualify for SW card since the CSP is their premium card. That's what I did, I was prequalified for CSP and after I was approved for that I went and applied for Ritz and was approved as well.

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

Not sure if the banking relationship helps but it definitely doesnt hurt. Smiley Happy I think you have a good chance with or without it. We should coordinate apps. Smiley Tongue Think I might give United a go in the next couple weeks. GL!

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

I think you stand a chance of approval as well; I'm just curious though - does your income really justify the card? At 20k income, I can't see how you are flying/traveling much unless you don't have housing expenses etc.

I'm not trying to pry or anything. Just trying to figure out if the card would really make sense for you. The $99 AF alone seems like it would be difficult to justify with that income/spend level.

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

I do not have any housing expenses at the moment. Still going to school. My plan is to make my mom an AU (she's already an AU on my Freedom) to help with spend. We want to take a vacation next summer so those bonus points can come in handy.

Also, I would eventually probably roll the limit onto my Freedom if I don't get enough use out of it and/or can't justify the fee after a year. So either way it'll work out because my Freedom's CL is on the low side.

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

I'd say u will get the sw card no problem. I have a freedom 5k and was prequal for the csp and slate as well when I got it 5months ago. Just apped for my sw card a few weeks ago and was approved and they open up the floodgates a lil more on those co-branded cards I got 12k

Would you mind sharing your stats at the time that you were approved for the Venture card?

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

Sure. Don't remember the exact stats, but approximations are:

680 EX, 690 EQ, 710 TU.
UTIL around 22%. Income the same.

Re: Pre Approved for CSP and Slate!

Although qualified for the CSP.. I think your income will stop you from getting approved for this card.  Just my 2 cents, plus I don't think you will run enough spend through it if approved to justify this card vs a simple no AF cashback card.  I think I recently saw a  few people a few months ago with income around 25kish getting declined for that reason alone with higher scores.  They were able to get the IHG or whatever though.
