Re: Pulled the trigger for the Ritz

I would have apped much earlier.

my original plan was to garden until March/April when by CSP 24m bonus clock resets.  Bulk of my spend goes on the United Club card, while Amex Plat gets the shopping etc.

I then started thinking about the Ritz because of the Marriott Gold.  Free breakfasts can be quite a moneysaver for us, especially since i didn't manage to make SPG Plat for next year.

Then I found out about the prior offers (points) with the Ritz card and especially liked how you can convert them to United miles.  So I held out for that offer.

Then I lurked and read up about the Prestige card and the main reason i got it was the combo with the Citigold checking bonus. Although I could have opted for the cheaper TYP card, which has broader earning power.

The Ritz decision was this afternoon after being frustrated over the Citi process.  I figured i just "had" to get a late year app in to try and max out the airfare credit, epecially after learning yesterday that Citi bases it off the statement closing date. I also learned about the expiring TYP if you transfer from Checking to card TYP. (if you downgrade/close citigold).

I didn't even think about the two airfare reimbursement trick in year one.  When i got my Amex Plat originally it was at the beginning of the year.

sigh

Fould a link for the offer with $3k spend for 2 nights.

Had to call recon to give them my EX pin.

They took more info, said it all looks good, etc. but that it is sent up another level for adjudication and that may take 7-10 bd.

They rep noticed I have two cards with Chase already with $25k+ combined limit and asked me how much am I looking for on this one.  I asked the question back and did't specifiy the limit i was looking for but did mention that i am hoping for this to become my main card if possible.  (I've spent mid 5 figures on the club card this year).

They rep said that I can log into my existing chase profile and i will be able to see the new card, if approved.   Also, if i wanted it rush delivered i would need to call them.  (I would expect they automatically send it overnight, as they have with other premier cards..)   Not impressed with speed of getting card.  I was approved for Ritz last Monday.  Still don't have card!  I apped for and was approved for Amex and Discover same day and got my cards today....

(btw, my EX looks like this:

before this HP, 808,

total 12 HPs, the last one was couple of days ago with Citi.  8 of the 12 HPs are dropping off within the next three months.  I have more than 5 cards opened in the last 2 years, 2 with chase, but only one was chase branded (CSP).

I usually show a $2k balance (not revolving) on ~$120k of total available credit.

Before the Citi app couple of days ago, my most recent apps/HP were:  Jan 2015, Oct 2014, Jul 2014

With the Christmas holiday just shy of a few days and if your Ritz loyalty account in the process of being set up, it's definitely going to cut it close in getting the card before the end of the year OP (if at all).  Not sure you may be able to benefit from the airline credits this year.  The beauty about that perk is the **bleep** resets at the beginning of the year so 2016 is still not too bad.

Re: Pulled the trigger for the Ritz

The recon rep said there's a secondary adjudicator where he sent the app.

Could it still be in the Chase purgatory before being punted to ritz ?

And if that's the case would it help or hinder if I create a Ritz profile on my own?

Process has already stated so I doubt you could provide them with a Ritz/Marriott rewards number even if you wanted to now.. Just let it play out and call the automated status line every day or two and see when it changes to approved message.  After that it has to go through marriott verification which takes even more time and once that is done it is over nighted  out..  As stated you are going to be hard pressed to get it this year as stated previously and as Finstar also stated.  Pretty much every other chase card you can speed up when actually approved, with exception of Ritz/Marriott..  So if you aren't approved yet that can take anywhere up to 30 days although most likely it will be alot quicker and then the process of verification of the marriott/ritz account of them creating it and linking it or even if you provided it them linking it (time consuming either way) and ultimately the shipment of the card.

Right, and just recalling last year's events with the popularity of the 140K promotion, it was a busy end of the year for JPM/Ritz and issuing cards.  I was approved on 12/18.  My card arrived on Christmas Eve day and was able to submit the travel credits just in time.  So, there may be hope OP but given how this year's holiday schedule falls it's going to be a tough one.

Re: Pulled the trigger for the Ritz

Thanks a lot for chiming in guys. @finstar, did you also apply on the 18th last year and was it an instant approval or did you apply before that date, similar to the delay we've been seeing now.

Thanks

My bad, just pulled up my account history - I applied on 12/17 and received the 30-day message (it was not instant).  IIRC, they called me the next day (12/18) to verify my address and a couple ID items and then just waited...and waited...Smiley Tongue   Eventually, it displayed online within a few days and then about the same time a UPS notification was generated via email that the card was being shipped.

great. so there is a glimmer of hope Smiley Indifferent

Was the UPS email unsolicited? Or did Chase have it sent when your card was shipped. (I think Amex does this).

man... how lucky about that 140k offer.  i remember that. i had no idea back then that the points were transferrable to united.   but, back then i was only a few months into my United Club card so Chase probably would have nixed me.

I have a UPS Premium account (you can create a free My Choice account though).  That's how I learned about the card being on its way.

Ah yes, the sweet little 140K points offer.  I don't know if it will even make a comeback anytime in the foreseeable future.  Here's what lots of folks are still waiting and praying for...
