Question about Chase Credit cards...

So I burned Chase in 2009 for roughly $25k on a business card; then burned them for $3,500 in 2011. I made payment arrangements on the personal card, that I was unable to follow through with after being severally injured at work in 2012. Account fell off my reports in December 2018.

Fast forward, back to work. Scores climbing. Purchased a house. New accounts LMFAO/24...

In April I applied for Chase's AA card, instant denial; letter mentioned
prior account closed by them.
Score.
Number of new accounts.

Called to recon, was told "to soon since prior account charged off, please feel free to apply again in the future ".

Last week after seeing several posts about Chase forgiving them, and posts about lol/24 being approved; I figured what's one more hard pull?

Application went to "Further Review needed" and something about 3-5 day's... this was a new response for me from them. Yesterday I got the (digital) denial letter... only one reason listed "Number of recently opened accounts"

Do you think this is the real reason? Or is this saving ink and when I'm under 5/24 they will bring up my past relationship with them?

Through this whole time I've had a checking account with them that is active and in good standing (not sure how much that helps)... recently tried opening a savings account (to see if they would let me open anything) and received the same "further review needed 3-5 days ", Monday was day 5 and they notified me the account was now open.

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

Chase has a long memory for people that burn them without paying them back. They'll forgive but don't forget

What gives you hope is that aside from lol/24 they didn't list any other reason. But as you allude to that doesn't mean they won't quote that reason as a possible denial in the future. Since you opened a savings account I would check with a local branch on pre-approvals and see if you can get back in that way.

It would help more if you wait and raise your scores first before trying again once you're under 5/24

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

If there is no other reason cited, such as "past negative relationship" or similar verbiage, then it appears you *may* have cleared that hurdle, except for the 5/24 restriction of course.

You can definitely check for pre-qualified offers online or at a local branch to leverage the option to bypass 5/24. Or, you can wait until you are below the threshold and reapply.

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

I mostly applied to see the denial code...

I knew I had a one in a trillion chance of approval. I figured I should have more than enough available credit and credit cards to hold me over... I'll try again in about 2 years.

Thanks for the insight!

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

I wouldn't make any mid-terms plans involving Chase credit. There are other options, as you know. If a mailer comes it comes. Chase ain't the only game in town.

Chase ain't the only game, but it's a good game
Because you do have a prior negative history will them, you'll probably need to wait till you're below 5/24, if one of their cards is a goal. You'd want to look your prettiest if you're to tip the scales.
Hopefully your next application with them will yield a much better result.

As far as Chase's memory, I got asked about a 30 day late I had on WaMu card from 17 years ago. Even my mother calls it quits at about a decade 😐

Good luck whenever you're ready to try again!

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

It took 10 years for me.

Since you got a message that didn't reference a prior relationship, i agree with a prior post that you are probably off the Blacklist, and other reasons are being cotemplated in their decision.

Just for reference, I would never get a hit on the Pre Approval site.  I received an offer for a CFU in the mail, however, and decided to respond to it.

Thanks for the insight. I used to want back in really bad; anymore it's more so curiosity of if they will ever be an option.

I was told before the card charged off, if I didn't pay them back before charge off I'd never be allowed to do business with them in any capacity-- but they never closed the active checking account they inherited from Wa-Mu.

I definitely don't need Chase, but having the option is appealing.

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

I want to follow along in this thread because I had three Chase cards that were CO'd last year and am now paying back, albeit as settlements. Does that still put me on their blacklist? (I'm assuming so because I didn't pay them back in full)

Re: Question about Chase Credit cards...

Chiefone4you, it's not true that they wont let you back in, as in never
The only issue is when they will let you in, but that would be applicable to just about any lender.
If you have an existing depository relationship with them, check in branch periodically for approvals, but put in some app-free time first.

Omar, yes because there is a still a loss for them there, albeit a mitigated one. It might be a while, but I'd imagine in time, they will let you back in.
It's always that pesky time 😐
