Citi double cashback mastercard say no again to line increase.

I am not crying again this is just for info. I requested a credit line increase again on my Citi DC mastercard last week and today got the rejection letter from Citi bank it had 2 reasons for  denial, first to many balances have increase. This is not true over the last couple of months my balances have been going down Tu shows as of last total balances $560 which is down from 1K in July of this year. This is on 3 cards which Citi DC is one of them. The second reasons is to many inquiries, here are the facts TU showing 1 inquiry from August 2019 from GS for the Apple card and 2 Inquiries which are on the experian report they are US bank for the cash visa back in August of 2019 and one from July of this year for the Altitude go Visa card. My Fico 9 score is 816 on experian and my fico 8 on TU is 804. In the last of couple of months made lot of charges on the Citi DC card. I am going to bring the balances on all my cards down to zero except the Citi DC card and then try again to see what happens. I must not be good enough for Citi any more.

I would like to wish ever one on the boards and moderators Happy holidays and healthy new year and lots of new credit and lots of money and fun.

Thanks for sharing your update @firefox100.  Just give it sometime and try it again.  Hopefully in a few months they'll be generous with a CLI.

Stay healthy and safe and enjoy the holidays!

Happy Holidays @firefox100  Smiley Happy

Honestly, you need to not look at not being good enough for a lender because they wont give you a cli everytime you ask. I believe a 15k credit line shows how much Citi trusts you given many folks dont ever see that high of a credit line with Citi.  If you really want a cli , show them you need it by actually putting heavy spend on it. And not just a 3 month period. Nor a $500 a month usage. There really is no incentive for any lender to extend X amount of credit on minimal use especially when they can see you have lots of credit elsewhere. Just a thought. Im rooting for you to get one eventually but let it come , itll feel much betterSmiley Happy

First let me say that Citi has great technology and there interaface with the app is one of best that I have come cross for example alerts for when using the card happen ver fast and and ever time. Also when I make a payment using the mobile app immedately after hiting the submit button the balance and the available credit up date at once, most other banks take day or two. I am not going to put more spend then I need to just to get an credit increase. Today I bought dog food and other supplies for my 4 legged friend which came out to 173 dollars at Chewy, then order take out food which went on the US altitude go card for the 4 % cash back. I am going to put spend wher it makes sence. I just would like Citi to give me a straight answer why not grant credit increase. This year Wells fargo and US bank have been nicer when it comes to granting credit then Citi, have higher limits at other banks then I have at Citi.

FF, I think you should consider altering your viewpoint a bit.  Based on your statement above, you are taking creditors lending decisions personally when it really isn't personal at all.  It's your profile, for whatever reason.  There's something about your profile that isn't working for them currently.  Also don't get hung up on their denial reasons.  Many times they are just fluff since they have to give you "a" reason... but it doesn't have to be "the" reason.  Sometimes I think it would just be easier if they all gave a generic, "Your profile currently does not meet the criteria to warrant an increase" or something similar.  My advice would just be to continue whatever you are doing naturally (don't "try" too hard) and just focus overall on strengthening your profile.  Whether that means dropping utilization a notch more, allowing your accounts/inquiries to age without apping for more credit, etc. only you can decide.  Ultimately you will find success, it can sometimes just take longer than one would like.

Re: Citi double cashback mastercard say no again to line increase.

I am beeing sarcastic when I say I am not enough for Citi bank. First I must say that I understand that a black box computer program made the credit decision in less then 2 seconds of computer run time. No human looked at my account in making the decision to grant or not grant increase. Since my first demial of credit increase from Citi back in July, Wells Fargo has giving me 2 increases on my Propel credit card total of 5K which makes my limit 20K. US bank in the same has approved me for the Altitude go visa card with starting credit limit of 10K and credit increase on the visa cash creditcard for 5K making the total credit limit 19.5K. I do have strong profile and there is nothing I can do about my Ul it is already near zero percent, total out standing balance is less then 600 dollars on available credit of 212K. This is just my opinion that if you want credit increase at this time that Wells Fargo and US bank you have better chance then with Citi bank at this time. I think the real reason that Citi will give me a credit increase is because I have to much available credit and since Covid they look at how much total credit lines one may have, just risk management.

The opinion you're citing above is based only on one credit profile though; yours.  It's perfectly possible that your profile aligns better currently with Wells Fargo and US Bank in terms of CLI capability relative to Citi.  That doesn't mean the same is true for everyone.  There are probably people on the forum that have received CLIs from Citi, but denials from Wells Fargo and US Bank.  I have seen plenty of Citi CLI approval threads in that section of the forum.  I just got one from Citi last month on my DC card as is typically the case for me every 6 months for my profile.

Maybe try letting significantly higher or lower balance report on your Citi card for a cycle or two relative to what you normally roll with.  While it shouldn't matter if your spend stays the same (which they can see no matter what) perhaps that 2 second computer decision will have a new/different piece of data to work with.

Re: Citi double cashback mastercard say no again to line increase.

I have 0% offer on my Citi double cashback mastercard which I will take advantage of and run balance over the next 5 months. Will pay more then 2 times min payment on the account. Will try again in 4 months and will see what Citi will do.

Carrying a high balance for a 0% offer for a few cycles could help.  I'd suggest doing more than 2x the minimum payment though, depending on what sort of balance you plan to carry.  As a minimum I'd probably recommend payments of at least 10%-15% of your balance as it would just be a healthier look.  Totally up to you though.

I think my current DC limit is $30,300 (some oddball number) and my EQ BCE Score 8 typically hangs out in the 870-885 range.  Reported income with them is upper 5 figures.
