Re: Quicksilver or Venture question

I would say yes, I had a secured capital one card, and was offered the QS visa platinum when my score was 640. I did have 4 years under my belt though. Capital one website never showed me any prequalifications at that time when I got the venture card with instant approval and I never had a 5k card until that point. So I would say those excellent card qualifications mean nothing if your already a customer with a good history. Just my 2 cents!

Re: Quicksilver or Venture question

I'm in the same boat as you. I also want a Venture, but I still have 5 collections (used to have 13+). I've been with Cap One since Feb 2007 so I def have some time under my belt. I've tried for the Venture once a year but it wasn't until recently that I got my scores closer to the 660 area. I'll probably app myself when I'm over that score and have removed one or two more collections just to be sure. Smiley Happy

Good luck when you do go for it. Smiley Happy

Can someone who is already a Capital One cardholder (has their lower-tier cards for about six months) be approved for a Quicksilver or Venture with mid-600 scores and a few (four or less) collections? I know this is kind of a general question and a lot is determined as far as credit profiles, but what is your experience? Thanks in advance!

I didn't get a preapproval when I got the Venture One card, but when I apped for the QS, I was turned down because my EX score was too low.  The score they had listed was EX FICO 3.  I know that they also use TU FICO 4, and I think that I have read somewhere that they also pulled EQ FICO 5 Mortgage backed score.  I would say that credit score should be somewhere between at least 640-680 before considering applying.  I would not consider applying now without a firm prequal offer.

You would probably get approved for Quicksilver, probably get denied for Venture.

You should have apped both on a same day....that way you'll end up(most likely) with 1 HP from each bureau.

Now, chances are you are looking at 2HP's from each bureau. But you may also not care as well so......

Re: Quicksilver or Venture question

Pre-Quals are interesting, baffling really. I NEVER pre-qual for anything. App and approved. Not approved every time but I have been approved upon cold app'ing. I am opt(ed) in.
