RBFCU mail with 7.7% offer

I just got a letter from RBFCU with an offer for a card without rewards at 7.7% or 9.9% for a cashback card.

What it is interesting is that they are offering 0% introductory APR on all BT and cash advances with no transaction fees when done for the first 90 days, then 9 full months to pay back the balance or cash without accruing any interest charges. I had some expenses and used my Venture to cover that, also I need to get $3,000 on it for the bonus. If I understand correctly, I can apply for this card and if approved, do BT and CA with 0% APR/Fees for 9 months.

I don't have a Mastercard here in the USA and my lowest APR is Venture at 12.9% then BofA at 16.9%.

Right now I'm with UFCU but they haven't offered anything. I tried an auto loan but they didn't approve that because I don't have a SSN just ITIN. I don't know if RBFCU will approve me with ITIN (I know some lenders will not approve with only ITIN).

Will it be a good move to try to get the card to build some history with RBFCU?

My DW got the auto loan at 2.15% and RBFCU offers 1.65% loans. Don't know if we can change the auto loan in a few months, from only my DW to a joint loan, so it can also show on my reports.

Re: RBFCU mail with 7.7% offer

I don't believe RBFCU requires very high credit scores to approve for a credit card.  They mostly pull TU.  You can check the credit pull database (google it) for an idea on what they are looking for.   I don't know if they require a SSN or not.  It is something you probably should call them to ask.

If you are looking for BT card, the first hurdle is will they approve you for a large enough limit.  It is very unlikely they will give you as high of a limit as your Venture.  The second thing is are you going to be able to pay off the BT within 9 statements.  If so, then the interest rate isn't that important.  But it is very unlikely you will get their best interest rates.   The cash back card has a range of 9.9-17.9% and the standard plat is 7.7 - 16.7%.

If you are able to be approved with a large enough limit and you can pay it off in 9 statements, then you will not have any fees.   I believe they are planning on imposing a BT fee, but there isn't one right now.

Your DW cannot change her current auto loan to include you.  However, she and you can refinance the loan with a different auto loan company.  It shouldn't be hard for the two of you to refinance and add you onto the loan.   Please note again, the 1.65% is RBFCU's lowest rate for up to a  66 month used/new auto loan.   The rates go up to 12.99%.  I don't know how likely the two of you are to get their best rates.

PS. I have been happy with my RBFCU relationship, however,  I don't have an RBFCU credit card or auto loan.  My RBFCU LOC/overdraft has still not reported to any CRA.  I don't know if it is just a glitch with me, just RBFCU doesn't report LOC's or if they also don't report other TL's.  When you are first building your credit, you want them to report to all three CRA's.  It would be wise to verify if / how quickly they will report a CC or autoloan account.

Good luck!

Re: RBFCU mail with 7.7% offer

Thank you CreditDunce.

I'll visit a branch in a few days and ask about using ITIN. UFCU almost approved me for auto loan, but then they saw that I don't have a SSN so they denied my request. Both our TU scores are above 750, don't know if the best rates are only for high score and how high.

Rbfcu is great, and my favorite CU that I belong to. They reported my new $5000 Platinum Mc within 3 weeks to all 3 bureaus, but haven't reported my line of credit yet, and it's been 2 months. Customer service is great, and I'm almost positive they'll take a TIN

I don't remember exactly. It took like a month or two to report . I have had it for over five years.
