Recent lates and new credit?

H

everyone

I've got a question.

How long should I wait before I apply for a credit line increase (Navy Fed) or a new charge card a(Amex) after recently lates?

For my revolving

From October 2019 to February 2020 I  acquired nine recent lates. All 30 days . I am now sitting at 96% positive payment history. My average account age is 3 years 3 months. The majority of my accounts are 1 year and 7 months old.My utilization is around 40%.  Lastly I have one installment loan that went into default.

Please help. I'm currently disputing the lates but I'm not sure if it will do any good. A I'm afraid this mistake will hold me back for years. any help  is appreciated

Re: Recent lates and new credit?

9 recent 30 day lates are going to hurt you for a while.

If they were during Covid-19 you might have a shot a goodwill letters .. it's going to be a YMMV

They will lesson over time, but lenders will look at 9 recent late as a pretty serious thing.

If you can't get them removed, they will haunt you for 7 years.

You might list if they were all from the same lender. or multiple lenders?.

Maybe @AllZero can post a macro about the goodwill deletion method.

I wish you Good Luck!

Re: Recent lates and new credit?

Are you disputing them because they're inaccurate or just in hopes of them somehow being deleted? If it's for the latter reason, that's not going to work. All you can do is try to get them removed via GW as mentioned above, otherwise their impact will lessen after a couple of years (but they will remain for all 7 if you are unsuccessful at getting them removed). So, you will be in trouble for at least 2 years, which is the minimum I suggest you wait before asking for CLIs or applying for anything.

@Anonymous, Thank you for your replySmiley Happy Not judging you here. Was it during Covid-19?

The reason I ask, it seems Lenders are more willing to do goodwill deletions during this time.

This is what I gather from reading the rebuild forum. Try the goodwill deletion method,

explain your lates and be sincere, don't just copy a "template"  .. sometimes if you still have a current relation with these lenders they can be more forgiving. I would emphasize that you value your relationship, and politely ask if these could be removed?

also I would add, that you would make sure it would never happen again in the future.

Also expect that some may not be willing to remove these, but don't give up.

It may take several rounds of doing this.

I would also suggest setting up auto pay on your accounts to at least pay the minimum monthly payment in the future.
