Recon Conversation

Hello, I'm new to this site and have  a question. I have spent 2 years rebuilding my credit because i made very stupid mistakes when i was young. So anyway I have two Capital one cards with decent high limits and others also. I went and applied for the capital venture card today and got denied which i don't why I never missed a payment with cap one. So I read a thread about recon calling and using back door numbers. I dont understand though what would i say to them to convince them to reconsider or how the whole conversation would go. And I also got prequalifed for a Gm buy pwer card from Cap One which i lost the code to and got denied for that card to when i called. So what do I say when i call those back door numbers. Thank you all

Re: Recon Conversation

Recon calls are pretty easy to do, and the worst they can do is not say yes. (They already said no!)

Prepare -

Baddies: Think of every negative you can about your profile - late payments, charge-offs, collections (paid or unpaid), very high utilization. Then figure out how you would explain them. What caused the late payments? Why haven't you paid your collections? etc.

Reasons: Why do you want this particular card? Do you like their rewards structure over others? Does it fill a hole in your credit profile? How does it fit in your long-term strategy for credit?

Call - Or in the case of CapOne, email. Ask for reconsideration for your recent denial. Offer to answer any questions they may have, and be prepared to take another hard pull, if you really want the card.

Golden Rule - A lot of CSRs deal with angry people all day. The CC company doesn't owe you anything. The CSRs can help, but they don't have to really. Just be nice, personable, and confident (but not cocky). So, be nice, sincere, and respectful and they will want to help you out if they can.

Good luck! (The first one is the hardest.)

Re: Recon Conversation

I have one collection but that never stopped me from getting any cards. I made a recon call to capital one after i had read that thread. And he said he would send it toa reconsideration dept. Is that good or pretty much ( ill send it but i know it ain't gonna happen) lol

Re: Recon Conversation

Recon with cap 1 is nearly impossible, sorry to say. There's not even a number you can actually call. You can try emailing the executive office and asking for a reconsideration, but that's about it.

Re: Recon Conversation

basically if you're denied just wait for the letter, see why, fix the issue and try again once fixed.

Capital One isn't known for being good about reconsideration, so you might want to just skip it.

If you really want to try, email their Executive Office.

What you would do is tell them why you want the card, why you're credit worthy, etc

Re: Recon Conversation

I strongly disagree. I was denied, and emailed the EO. They called me a few days later, I explained a few issues on my reports, and I received a call back a few days later, and they approved me! Email them, give it a shot

1. I don't consider Cap One to be very receptive to recon.

2. Venture is their top level card, so your getting other Cap One cards is meaningless.

3. If you really want to recon, you could email their Executive Offices. (Email address is available lthrough web search)

4. As to what you would say, you would muster whatever evidence you have of your creditworthiness, including your payment record.
